Trigger team activation in the emergency department at a tertiary university hospital
CONCLUSION Patients with MEP calls are more frequent, have a more diverse aetiology and a higher mortality than patients in the other trigger teams. A need exists for further guidelines and research regarding MEP with a view to reducing the high mortality rate among MEP in the future. FUNDING Annmarie Lassen was funded by an unrestricted grant from the philanthropic fund the Tryg Foundation given to the University of Southern Denmark. TRIAL REGISTRATION The study was approved by the Danish Health Authority (Record no. 3-3013-1385/1) and the Danish Data Protection Agency (Record no. 2013-41-2435).PMID:34983729

Impact of prestroke physical activity and citalopram treatment on poststroke depressive symptoms: a secondary analysis of data from the TALOS randomised controlled trial in Denmark
Conclusions A higher prestroke physical activity level was associated with fewer depressive symptoms 1 and 6 months after stroke. Citalopram treatment did not seem to modify this association. Trial registration numbers NCT01937182 (ClinicalTrials.gov) and 2013-002253-30 (EUDRACT).

Long working week 'may increase risk of irregular heartbeat'
Conclusion This study draws together data from a large group of people to investigate whether working hours could be linked to AF. It found people who work 55 or more hours a week had an increased risk of developing an irregular heartbeat. But before we jump to any conclusions, there are several important things to consider: The number of people who developed AF during this study was small: only 1.24%. That's the absolute risk of AF. Even if working more than 55 hours a week does increase your risk of AF by around 40%, it would only be increasing it to something like 1.74% – which is still very small. Only a small ...

Family aggregation of cardiovascular disease mortality: a register-based prospective study of pooled Nordic twin cohorts
ConclusionsFamily aggregation was found for CHD and haemorrhagic stroke. Clustering of risk factors in families increases the risk of CVD.

The Fugl-Meyer assessment of the upper extremity: reliability, responsiveness and validity of the Danish version.
CONCLUSION: The FMA-UE was successfully translated into Danish. An MCID ≥ 4 was found. This study provides evidence that the FMA-UE is a reliable, responsive and valid instrument for measuring upper limb impairment after stroke. Implications for rehabilitation One of the most widely recognized measures of upper extremity motor impairment post-stroke is the Fugl-Meyer Assessment of the Upper Extremity (FMA-UE). The psychometric properties of a measurement depends on the population and setting in which it is used. In this study, the FMA-UE is translated into Danish and the psychometric properties of FMA-UE is determine...

Risk of thromboembolic and bleeding outcomes following hematological cancers: a Danish population-based cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Approximately 2 out of 10 hematological cancer patients experienced MI, ischemic stroke, VTE, or bleeding requiring hospital contact within 10 years. The hematological cancer cohort had higher hazards of MI, ischemic stroke, VTE, and bleeding requiring hospital contact than a general population comparison cohort. Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulation agents in anticoagulant naive atrial fibrillation patients: Danish nationwide descriptive data 2011-2013
Conclusion Among oral anticoagulation-naïve AF patients initiated on oral anticoagulation in Denmark, warfarin initiation has declined since the introduction of dabigatran in August 2011. Dabigatran is the most frequently used alternative option to warfarin; however, use of rivaroxaban and apixaban is increasing. Patients initiated with rivaroxaban or apixaban in general have a higher predicted stroke and bleeding risks compared with warfarin or dabigatran initiators.

Increased use of oral anticoagulants in patients with atrial fibrillation: temporal trends from 2005 to 2015 in Denmark
Conclusion</div>Since 2010, more incident AF patients in Denmark were initiated on OAC therapy with predominant NOAC prescription. The increase was pronounced among females, among patients at high risk of stroke, and among older patients.</span>

Long-Term Exposure to Road Traffic Noise and Nitrogen Dioxide and Risk of Heart Failure: A Cohort Study
Conclusions: Long-term exposure to NO2 and road traffic noise was associated with higher risk of heart failure, mainly among men, in both single- and two-pollutant models. High exposure to both pollutants was associated with highest risk. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1272 Received: 25 October 2016 Revised: 09 August 2017 Accepted: 09 August 2017 Published: 26 September 2017 Address correspondence to M. Single lead atrial vs. dual chamber pacing in sick sinus syndrome: extended register-based follow-up in the DANPACE trial
ConclusionThis register-based long-term follow-up study indicates that there is no difference in mortality among patients with SSS randomized to AAIR or DDDR pacing, even with very long follow-up. Nor is there any difference in risk of AF hospitalization, stroke or HF. The higher rate of pacing mode-change to DDDR in the AAIR group suggests a different management of patients with an AAIR PM after the DANPACE trial.

Short-term nighttime wind turbine noise and cardiovascular events: A nationwide case-crossover study from Denmark.
CONCLUSION: This study did not provide conclusive evidence of an association between WTN and MI or stroke. It does however suggest that indoor LF WTN at night may trigger cardiovascular events, whereas these events seemed largely unaffected by nighttime outdoor WTN. These findings need reproduction, as they were based on few cases and may be due to chance. PMID: 29505969 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Neurological and psychiatric comorbidity in patients with heart failure: risk and prognosis.
In conclusion, the DNPR contains data on several cardiovascular diagnoses and cardiac interventions recorded with high PPVs. Our data also suggest that a history of depression is an adverse prognostic factor for death in patients with heart failure and low LVEF. Finally, heart failure emerged as a risk factor for all-cause dementia as well as for both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. PMID: 29619930 [PubMed - in process]
