Biopharmaceutical, preclinical pharmacokinetic and pharmaco-dynamic investigations of an orally administered novel 3-nbutylphthalide prodrug for ischemic stroke treatment
Eur J Pharm Sci. 2022 Oct 19:106308. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2022.106308. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke (IS) has been contributing in leading causes of disability and death worldwide and the cases are still increasing. In China, naturally sourced compound 3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) is widely applied in clinical practice for IS treatment with established evidences of efficacy and safety. However, NBP is an oily liquid at room temperature and has no active brain targeting ability, quite limiting its broader application in clinical practice. Via intravenous injection (i.v.) a prodrug compound (DB1) we previously dev...

Greenspace exposure and poststroke disability: A nationwide longitudinal study
CONCLUSIONS: Increasing greenspace was inversely associated with mRS score. Greenspace planning can be a potential intervention to prevent poststroke disability.PMID:36265403 | DOI:10.1016/j.ecoenv.2022.114195

An overview of the evidence to guide decision-making in acupuncture therapies for early recovery after acute ischemic stroke
ConclusionsIn the acute and early recovery phases after AIS onset, acupuncture is a promising therapeutic strategy to improve the curative effect of current treatments, especially in the recovery of neurological function. Patients in the acute phase might receive XNKQ Ac, and patients in the early recovery phase might receive EA1, CA, or SA. However, considering the current certainty of evidence, a solid recommendation warrants further exploration.Systematic review registration:https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/, identifier CRD42022335426.

Effect of acupuncture for disorders of consciousness in patients with stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionAcupuncture may improve consciousness level, increase the resuscitation rate, and shorten resuscitation time for post-stroke patients with DOC. Adverse events from acupuncture were rare, tolerable, and recoverable. However, the results should be interpreted cautiously, and more rigorous RCTs with better methodology are warranted.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/display_record.php?RecordID=289802, identifier 289802.

Relationship between MTHFR C677T, homocysteine, and ischemic stroke in a large sample of the Han Chinese population
Ischemic stroke, one of the prevalent causes of death and disability worldwide, is linked to environmental and genetic factors, including polymorphisms in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene involved in homocysteine metabolism. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between the MTHFR C677T variant, plasma homocysteine, and risk of developing large-artery atherosclerotic ischemic stroke (LAAIS) among Han Chinese.

Assessment of rehabilitation following intracerebral hemorrhage in China: findings from the Chinese stroke center alliance
This study showed that the rate of rehabilitation assessment was 74.2%, which is low. Rehabilitation assessment was associated with longer hospital stays and lower mortality. Therefore, patients with acute cerebral haemorrhage should undergo comprehensive and professional rehabilitation assessment.PMID:36126147 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2022.2123174

The association between functional status and physical pain with depressive symptoms after a stroke event: A cross-sectional analysis of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study 2018
ConclusionDepressive symptoms are common amongst post-stroke patients in China and are significantly associated with functional disability and physical pain. Our findings have implications for practitioners on the early assessment of pain and depression after stroke. Future research should explore effective intervention measures for physical-mental stroke complications.

Cost-Effectiveness of Low-Dose Compared to Standard-Dose Alteplase for Acute Ischemic Stroke in China: A Within-Trial Economic Evaluation of the ENCHANTED Study
Conclusions: This health economic evaluation alongside the ENCHANTED indicates that the use of low-dose alteplase does not save overall healthcare costs nor lead to a gain in QALYs in the management of Chinese patients with AIS compared to the use of standard dose. There is little justification on economic grounds to shift from standard-of-care thrombolysis in AIS.Cerebrovasc Dis

Platelet-activating factor receptor antagonists of natural origin for acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review of current evidence
Conclusions: This systematic review not only makes an important contribution to the existing body of current evidence but also lays a well-conducted basis for providing opinions and recommendation on the evaluation of PAFRA-based medicine, which could also highlight the need for well-designed clinical trials of PAFRA for AIS to increase the quality of available evidence. Further research is required, using standardized functional outcome measures for AIS, adequate blinding and suitable comparator groups reflecting current best practice.

Related Factors of Cerebral Hemorrhage after Cerebral Infarction and the Effect of Atorvastatin Combined with Intensive Nursing Care
CONCLUSION: Patients with hypertension, large infarction lesions, high NIHSS score at admission, atrial fibrillation, and small artery occlusion cerebral infarction can increase the risk of bleeding transformation in patients with cerebral infarction. For patients with bleeding transformation, atorvastatin calcium tablets combined with early intensive nursing intervention has a certain value for improving the prognosis of patients.PMID:35959354 | PMC:PMC9357761 | DOI:10.1155/2022/9546006

Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China 2021: An Updated Summary
Biomed Environ Sci. 2022 Jul 20;35(7):573-603. doi: 10.3967/bes2022.079.ABSTRACTIn 2019, cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounted for 46.74% and 44.26% of all deaths in rural and urban areas, respectively. Two out of every five deaths were due to CVD. It is estimated that about 330 million patients suffer from CVD in China. The number of patients suffering from stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, pulmonary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, lower extremity artery disease and hypertension are 13.00 million, 11.39 million, 8.90 million, 5.00 million, 4.87 million, ...
