Self-reported medication adherence and pharmacy refill adherence among persons with ischemic stroke: a cross-sectional study
ConclusionsThe majority of participants were classified as adherent, 87% according to MARS-5 and 78% based on data from SPDR. However, only 70% were adherent according to both MARS-5 and SPDR, and different predictors were associated with the different measurements, suggesting that these assessments are measuring different aspects of adherence.

Osteomodulin Gene Expression Is Associated With Plaque Calcification, Stability, and Fewer Cardiovascular Events in the CPIP Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: These data show that osteomodulin mRNA and protein levels are associated with plaque calcification in human atherosclerosis. Furthermore, osteomodulin mRNA, but not protein levels, is associated with plaque stability.PMID:35135320 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.121.037223

Long-term cadmium exposure and fractures, cardiovascular disease, and mortality in a prospective cohort of women
DISCUSSION: Long-term Cd exposure might be associated with risk of fractures and all-cause mortality at lower levels than previously suggested.PMID:35114608 | DOI:10.1016/j.envint.2022.107114

Using a digital spelling aid to improve writing in persons with post-stroke aphasia: An intervention study
CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS: The study shows that a digital spelling aid constitutes effective support for people with aphasia and may also affect levels other than spelling. The training had a generalising positive effect on text writing and spelling in a test. Although writing difficulties is a persisting symptom in aphasia, it can be supported and improved through use of digital spelling aids. Hence, treatment of writing ability should always be included in the rehabilitation of people with aphasia.WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on this subject Use of a technical writing aid can have a positive impact on the...

Low Incidence of Late Ipsilateral Ischaemic Stroke After Treatment for Symptomatic Carotid Stenosis in Sweden 2008 –2017: Increased Risk in the Elderly and After Carotid Stenting
Carotid stenosis is a major risk factor for stroke and surgical treatment is key in preventing recurrent ischaemic events. Previous randomised trials have demonstrated the net benefit of surgery for significant symptomatic carotid stenosis but, with present day medical treatment, there is limited evidence on the risk of late ipsilateral ischaemic stroke (IS) and its main risk factors.

Incident cardiovascular disease and long-term exposure to source-specific air pollutants in a Swedish cohort
CONCLUSION: In an area with low to moderate air pollution exposure, we observed significant associations of long-term residential NOx with increased risk of incident CHF and fatal MI, but not with coronary events and stroke.PMID:35074356 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2022.112698

Survival and functional outcome following endovascular thrombectomy for anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion in Sweden 2017-2019 < em > - < /em > a nationwide, prospective, observational study
CONCLUSIONS: EVT patients from our large real-world national dataset differed from RCT patients in several baseline factors including distribution of vascular occlusion site. However, the overall outcome of EVT in our Swedish cohort appeared to well match the pivotal trial findings.PMID:35044270 | DOI:10.1177/15910199211073019

The economic burden of stroke: a systematic review of cost of illness studies
J Med Life. 2021 Sep-Oct;14(5):606-619. doi: 10.25122/jml-2021-0361.ABSTRACTStroke is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. As the number of stroke cases is rising from one year to another, policymakers require data on the amount spent on stroke to enforce better financing policies for prevention, hospital care, outpatient rehabilitation services and social services. We aimed to systematically assess the economic burden of stroke at global level. Cost of stroke studies were retrieved from five databases. We retrieved the average cost per patient, where specified, or estimated it using a top-down a...
