Patients ’ Priorities for Oral Anticoagulation Therapy in Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation: a Multi-criteria Decision Analysis
DiscussionAlthough the relative impact of convenience on therapy value is small, patients have different preferences for options within convenience criteria. Besides considerations on safety and effectiveness, physicians should also discuss attributes of convenience with patients, as it can be assumed that alignment to patient preferences in drug prescription and better patient education could result in higher adherence.

Medtronic touts reduced AF, improved activity in AdaptivCRT studies
Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) today released results from two real-world analyses of its AdaptivCRT algorithm, touting that its use was linked to a reduction in atrial fibrillation episodes and higher patient activity levels.
Results from the analyses, which involved a total of 408 patients at 26 centers in Italy, were presented at the European Heart Rhythm Association’s Scientific Sessions 2018 in Barcelona, Spain, the company said.

Strategies for improving dabigatran adherence for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation: education and drug intake reminders (FACILITA study).
CONCLUSIONS: A mixed intervention, consisting of patient education and a simple calendar reminder of drug intake, is an effective strategy to improve dabigatran therapeutic adherence in patients with NVAF. The percentage of adherence with dabigatran was high.

Conclusions—This study reveals the heavy burden borne by the caregivers of stroke survivors. Our analysis also identifies explanatory and predictive variables for the likelihood of receiving informal care, caregiver burden, and high risk of burnout.

Stroke-related mortality in a tertiary care hospital in Andalusia: Analysis and reflections
Conclusions Stroke is associated with higher admission and in-hospital mortality rates than SCA. Likewise, patients with HS showed higher mortality rates than those with IS. Patients with fatal stroke usually had a history of long-term treatment with anticoagulants; two-thirds of the patients with fatal IS and AF were not receiving anticoagulants. According to our results, optimising prevention in patients with AF may have a positive impact on stroke-related in-hospital mortality.

Clinical profile and satisfaction with anticoagulated treatment in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation attended in Internal Medicine and Neurology departments of Spain.
CONCLUSIONS: Although there were some differences in the clinical profile of patients with atrial fibrillation attended in Neurology or Internal Medicine departments, all of them had many comorbidities and a high thromboembolic risk. Despite INR control was poor, the most common oral anticoagulant used were vitamin K antagonists. Satisfaction related to oral anticoagulation was high.

In the last 10 years, different treatments for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (SPAF) have been launched in Spain. However, little is known about clinical outcomes and cost associated to patient events in real world practice. The aim of this model is to assist in the decision making of treatment selection based on the risk of a patient having an event.

Baseline functional status as the strongest predictor of in-hospital mortality in elderly patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation: Results of the NONAVASC registry.
CONCLUSION: The overall in-hospital mortality of elderly patients with NVFA is high. Among all factors evaluated in the global geriatric assessment the baseline functional status was the strongest predictor for in-hospital mortality on this population.

Atrial fibrillation in immigrant groups: a cohort study of all adults 45 years of age and older in Sweden
In conclusion, we observed substantial differences in incidence of AF between immigrant groups and the Swedish-born population. A greater awareness of the increased risk of AF development in some immigrant groups may enable for a timely diagnos is, treatment and prevention of its debilitating complications, such as stroke.

Comparison of the cost-utility of direct oral anticoagulants for the prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation in Spain.
CONCLUSIONS: All three direct anticoagulants are cost-effective against acenocoumarol. Dabigatran is economically dominant over rivaroxaban and apixaban in the Spanish setting, as it is more effective and cheaper.

Cost-effectiveness analysis of apixaban versus acetylsalicylic acid in the prevention of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in Spain.
CONCLUSIONS: According to this model, when costs and estimated lifetime outcomes achieved with apixaban are compared with those of ASA, apixaban was assessed to be a cost-effective treatment for the prevention of stroke in patients with NVAF in Spain.
