Steps forward in minimally invasive cardiac surgery: 10-year experience
ConclusionsThe present study shows the considerable and attractive results of our decision making process based on the tailored approach: the 10-year outcome analysis demonstrates a trend toward a progressive decrease in the overall rate of post-operative complications and a significant protective effect of the tailored approach on the occurrence of stroke.

Procedural, Early and Long-term Outcomes after Percutaneous Closure of Atrial Septal Defect: Comparison between Large and Very Large Atrial Septal Defect Groups.
CONCLUSIONS: Although MIT was more frequently required in very large ASD groups, the procedural, early and long-term outcomes after percutaneous ASD closure were similar in both groups. Association of cardiac adaptations with NT-proBNP levels after percutaneous closure of atrial septal defect.
CONCLUSION: Percutaneous ASD closure can lead to both early and sustained changes in cardiac anatomy and function involving both sides of the heart. The NT-proBNP level had increased at 24 hours post procedure, and was also notably increased 30 days after the percutaneous ASD closure, which is associated with increased LV diameter and volume. Associations Between Age at Arterial Switch Operation, Brain Growth and Development in Infants with Transposition of the Great Arteries.
CONCLUSIONS: Surgery beyond two weeks of age is associated with impaired brain growth and slower language development in infants with TGA cared for at our center. While the mechanisms underlying this association are still unclear, extended periods of cyanosis and pulmonary over-circulation may adversely impact brain growth and subsequent neurodevelopment. Recent Experience and Follow-Up After Surgical Closure of Secundum Atrial Septal Defect in 120 Children
AbstractWhile percutaneous catheter closure proves an effective treatment for secundum atrial septal defect (ASD2), some child patients require surgical closure. We assessed the risks associated with isolated surgical ASD2 closure by reviewing the outcomes of 120 children operated on between 1999 and 2011 (mean age 4.6  ± 3.9 years, mean weight 17 ± 12 kg). ConclusionsECMO can be used as a bridge to heart valve or septal defect surgery in severely decompensated patients. Human Fetal Hearts with Tetralogy of Fallot have Altered Fluid Dynamics and Forces.
In this study, we performed patient-specific ultrasound-based flow simulations of 3 TOF and 7 normal human fetal hearts. TOF right ventricles (RV) had smaller end-diastolic volumes (EDV) but similar stroke volumes (SV), while TOF left ventricles (LV) had similar EDV but slightly increased SV compared to normal ventricles.
