Carotid Atherosclerosis and Cerebral Microbleeds: The Framingham Heart Study Epidemiology
Conclusions Cumulative vascular risk factor exposure may increase the risk of CMB, especially in deep regions. The apparent paradoxical association of carotid intima–media thickness progression with lower risk of CMB may reflect benefits of intensive vascular risk factor treatment among persons with higher cardiovascular risk and deserves further investigation. If replicated, the results may have potential implications for assessment of preventive and therapeutic interventions for subclinical cerebral hemorrhage.

Simultaneous coronary and carotid revascularisation
Conclusion According to our experiences and results, the simultaneous performance of CEA and CABG in patients with severe coexisting carotid artery disease who require coronary revascularization has proved to be a safe and efficacious operative strategy in these high-risk patients.

Risk of Venous Thromboembolism in Patients with Large Hemispheric Infarction Undergoing Decompressive Hemicraniectomy
Conclusions The rate of DVT and PE is remarkably high in patients with large hemispheric infarction undergoing decompressive hemicraniectomy despite prophylactic measures. We recommend routine screening for DVT in this population. Interventions beyond the standard prophylactic measures may be necessary in this high-risk group.

The effects of malnutrition on cardiac function in African children
Conclusions In this largest study to date, we found no significant difference in cardiac function between hospitalised children with and without severe acute malnutrition. Further study is needed to determine if cardiac function is diminished in unstable malnourished children.

Association Between Abnormal Course of Carotid Artery and Cerebrovascular Disease.
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of ABCA in the present study is significantly lower than that in previous studies (Togay-Isikay et al., 24.6%, Del Corso et al., 58%). ABCA is more frequent in women and older patients. ABCA is not related to stroke and stroke risk factors. Abstract P114: Mas Receptor Deficiency Increases Diastolic Blood Pressure and Reduces Cardiac Function in Obese Female Mice Session Title: Poster Session 1- Trainee Onsite Poster Competition and Reception
Conclusion: These results demonstrate that MasR deficiency promotes elevated diastolic blood pressures and reduced cardiac function in obese female mice, suggesting that the Ang-(1-7)/MasR axis protects females from obesity-hypertension. Moreover, these results suggest that MasR agonists may be effective therapies for obesity-associated cardiovascular conditions.

Relationship of short-term blood pressure variability with carotid intima-media thickness in hypertensive patients
Conclusions: The results show that SBPV during daytime and 24 h had significant correlation with IMT, for the hypertensive subjects from the southern area of China. Moreover, we also found the daytime SBPV to be the best predictor for the progression of IMT in multivariate regression analysis. In addition, the present study suggests that the correlation between BPV and left common carotid artery—intima-media thickness/number of plaques is stronger than right common carotid artery-intima-media thickness/number of plaques.
