Emergency Angioplasty or Stenting for Stroke Patients with Intracranial Atherosclerotic Large Vessel Occlusion
CONCLUSION: Emergency angioplasty or stenting could be a safe and feasible therapeutic option with better outcomes for stroke patients with ICAS-related LVO.PMID:35466122 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63381

Drugs of Misuse: Focus on Vascular Dysfunction
Can J Cardiol. 2022 Apr 21:S0828-282X(22)00261-6. doi: 10.1016/j.cjca.2022.04.011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCommon drugs of misuse, including cannabis, opioids, stimulants, alcohol, and anabolic steroids, have strikingly disparate acute and chronic vascular effects, leading to a wide range of clinical cardiovascular presentations. Acute cannabis smoking has been associated with increased risk for myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke in otherwise healthy young people. However, it remains uncertain if people who exclusively smoke cannabis have increased risk for accelerated atherosclerosis similar to that found in ...

Real-World Comparisons of Low-Dose NOACs versus Standard-Dose NOACs or Warfarin on Efficacy and Safety in Patients with AF: A Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Low-dose NOACs were comparable to standard-dose NOACs considering risks of ischemic stroke, major bleeding, ICH, and GH, and they were superior to warfarin. Low-dose NOACs might be prescribed effectively and safely for patients with AF. Considering limitations, further well-designed prospective studies are foreseen.PMID:35449605 | PMC:PMC9017587 | DOI:10.1155/2022/4713826

Comparison of carotid atherosclerotic plaque characteristics between symptomatic patients with transient ischemic attack and stroke using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke patients had larger plaque burden and greater proportion of LRNC in carotid plaques compared to those with TIA. This study suggests that ischemic stroke patients had more vulnerable plaques compared to those with TIA.PMID:35448952 | DOI:10.1186/s12872-022-02624-7
