Hyperglycemia Aggravates the Cerebral Ischemia Injury via Protein O-GlcNAcylation
CONCLUSION: Overall, our study indicates a critical role for O-GlcNAcylation in that hyperglycemia aggravates cerebral ischemia injury. O-GlcNAcylation may be a potential therapeutic drug for ischemic stroke associated with AD.PMID:37334605 | DOI:10.3233/JAD-230264

Rescue Stent Placement for Acute Ischemic Stroke with Large Vessel Occlusion Refractory to Mechanical Thrombectomy: A Multiethnic Middle Eastern/African/Asian Cohort
CONCLUSION: Rescue stent placement showed good outcomes and a low risk of clinically significant bleeding in a multiethnic cohort of patients from MENA, South and Southeast Asia similar to earlier published literature.PMID:37302471 | DOI:10.1016/j.jvir.2023.06.005

Blood phytosterols in relation to cardiovascular diseases and mediating effects of blood lipids and hematological traits: a Mendelian randomization analysis
CONCLUSION: The study suggests that genetic predisposition to higher blood total sitosterol is linked to a greater risk of major CVDs. Moreover, blood nonHDL-C and apolipoprotein B might mediate a significant proportion of the associations between sitosterol and coronary diseases.PMID:37270173 | DOI:10.1016/j.metabol.2023.155611

Dental Caries a Risk Factor for Intracerebral Hemorrhage
CONCLUSION: Dental caries is a potential risk for incident ICH after caries detection. Future studies are needed to determine if treatment of dental caries can reduce the risk of ICH.PMID:37231788 | DOI:10.1159/000530568

Association of Alternative Anticoagulation Strategies and Outcomes in Patients With Ischemic Stroke While Taking a Direct Oral Anticoagulant
This study provides Class II evidence that in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation suffering an ischemic stroke while being treated with a DOAC, continuing treatment with that DOAC is more effective at preventing recurrent ischemic stroke than switching to a different DOAC or to warfarin.PMID:37225430 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000207422

Early venous filling after mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion in anterior circulation
CONCLUSIONS: EVF is independently associated with ICH, sICH and MCE after successful recanalization of MT, but not with favorable outcome and mortality.PMID:37197935 | DOI:10.1136/jnis-2023-020336

Early postoperative outcome after carotid artery endarterectomy with bifurcation advancement
Conclusions: CEA with bifurcation advancement provides comparable perioperative results, focusing on combined stroke and mortality, but seems to have some technical drawbacks, which may lead to more frequent local neurological complications.PMID:37170543 | DOI:10.1024/0301-1526/a001074

Heterozygosity for ADP-ribosylation factor 6 suppresses the burden and severity of atherosclerosis
PLoS One. 2023 May 10;18(5):e0285253. doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0285253. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is the root cause of major cardiovascular diseases (CVD) such as myocardial infarction and stroke. ADP-ribosylation factor 6 (Arf6) is a ubiquitously expressed GTPase known to be involved in inflammation, vascular permeability and is sensitive to changes in shear stress. Here, using atheroprone, ApoE-/- mice, with a single allele deletion of Arf6 (HET) or wildtype Arf6 (WT), we demonstrate that reduction in Arf6 attenuates atherosclerotic plaque burden and severity. We found that plaque burden in the descending...

Twenty-four-hour ambulatory blood pressure variability and association with ischemic stroke subtypes in the subacute stage
CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate a discrepancy in blood pressure variability among different ischemic stroke subtypes during the subacute stage. Higher systolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure variability during the 24 h, daytime, and nighttime, and nighttime diastolic blood pressure were independent predictors for large-artery atherosclerosis stroke. Increased nighttime diastolic BPV was an independent risk factor for cardioembolic stroke.PMID:37139058 | PMC:PMC10149864 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2023.1139816
