Differences in wake‐up and unknown onset stroke examined in a stroke registry
ConclusionWUS has lower rates of ICH but similar stroke severity and outcomes to AOS. UOS prevalence appears to be increasing, with higher stroke severity and worse prognosis.

Healthcare circuits and functional outcomes 3 and 12 months after a stroke in a population-based cohort of 929 patients
In this study, carried out with an exhaustive population within a region and a one-year follow-up with few missing data, the results show a morbi-mortality after stroke higher than the one reported in previous studies. The results also confirm the better prognosis of IS.

Antibiotic therapy for preventing infections in people with acute stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Preventive antibiotics had no effect on functional outcome or mortality, but significantly reduced the risk of 'overall' infections. Codeine is associated with poor prognosis in acute stroke
ConclusionUse of codeine‐containing analgesics is associated with a poorer short‐term prognosis and an increased occurrence of complications in the acute phase after a stroke. The highly significant findings suggest that codeine has a negative effect on acute stroke patients. Thrombolysis in patients with prior stroke within the last 3 months
ConclusionsIn patients with prior stroke within the last 3 months, none of the sICHs and only one asymptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage occurred in the region of the former infarct. The high mortality was influenced by four patients, who died until discharge due to acute major index stroke. It is reasonable to include these patients in randomized clinical trials and registries to assess further their thrombolysis benefit−risk ratio.

Sex as predictor for achieved health outcomes and received care in ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage: a register-based study
ConclusionsA lower proportion of women had good functioning, a difference that remained in IS after adjustments for age, socioeconomic factors, living arrangements, ADL dependency, and stroke severity. The amount of received hospital care was lower for women after adjustments. Whether shorter hospital stay results in lower function or is a consequence of lower function cannot be elucidated. Early apixaban therapy after ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsSymptomatic HT rates are likely to be low in randomized trials of DOAC initiation post-stroke. Recurrent ischemic stroke may be the major clinical outcome. These data may be used as expected event rates when calculating sample size requirements for future safety/efficacy trials of early versus late DOAC initiation after AF-related stroke.

Admission thyroid function in relation to 90-day outcome of acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: FT3 and TSH were negatively correlated with poor 90-day outcome in patients with AIS. Measurement of thyroid function on admission may provide independent prognostic information for 90-day outcome of AIS.PMID:37466064
