Recommendations for evaluation of neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction after spinal cord injury and/or disease.
Conclusion: There is no one single measure that can be used to assess NBB dysfunction across all clinical research studies. Clinical and diagnostic tools are here recommended based on specific medical needs of the person with SCI/D. Following the CDE for SCI studies guidelines, we recommend both the SF-Qualiveen for bladder and the NBDS for bowel as relatively short measures with strong psychometrics. Other measures are also recommended. A combination of assessment tools (objective and subjective) to be used jointly across the spectrum of care seems critical to best capture changes related to NBB and develop better treatme...

A Serious Diagnosis Lacking Common Symptoms
BY JENNIFER TUONG; IVAN KHARCHENKO; JEAN LUC AGARD; & AHMED RAZIUDDIN, MDA 65-year-old man who had HIV well-controlled with highly active antiretroviral therapy, hypertension, sciatica, and restless leg syndrome presented to the emergency department with left leg pain. He also had had chemotherapy and radiation for anal cancer. The patient said the pain had started 45 minutes earlier when he was sitting on the toilet. He described the pain as sore in quality and 10/10 on the pain scale. He reported that it had started in his lower back and radiated to his left leg. He said he had had no trauma or weakness to the regi...

A Novel Triple-Cell Two-Dimensional Model to Study Immune-Vascular Interplay in Atherosclerosis
Conclusions We have developed a co-culture model for the study of the immune-vascular interplay in atherosclerosis consisting of ECs, SMCs and an inflammatory compartment. In order to validate this model, we have demonstrated that the triple-cell 2D culture of ECs, SMCs, and THP-1 macrophage-like cells significantly alters the phenotype of ECs and SMCs within this culture in comparison with EC/SMC, EC/THP-1, or SMC/THP-1 double-cell cultures. Our results are indicative of the multi-directional communication between highly plastic vascular stromal cells and the immune system, which is now well recognized in the field, and ...

A pilot randomized controlled trial comparing effectiveness of prism glasses, visual search training and standard care in hemianopia
ConclusionsNo significant change occurred for area of visual field area across arms over follow‐up. Visual search training had significant improvement in vision‐related quality of life. Prism therapy produced adverse events in 69%. Visual search training results warrant further investigation.

A Case of Resolution of Thalamic Pain Syndrome Following Endovascular Stenting (P4.352)
Conclusions: CPSP may be in part due to chronic hypoperfusion. Endovascular stenting may have led to the resolution of the patient’s CPSP.Disclosure: Dr. Le has nothing to disclose. Dr. Rasmussen has nothing to disclose. Dr. Noonan has nothing to disclose.

Stenting of the left pulmonary artery after palliation of hypoplastic left heart syndrome
ConclusionsStenting of the left pulmonary artery after Norwood/Fontan palliation is safe and effective. Stents can be redilated to match somatic growth. The incidence of neointimal proliferation is extremely low and can be addressed by balloon dilation or stent implantation. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Management of moyamoya syndrome in patients with Noonan syndrome
We report four cases of Noonan syndrome patients presenting with headaches and/or sensorimotor strokes in childhood that caused unilateral sensorimotor impairment. Cerebral angiography and MRI revealed bilateral moyamoya syndrome. All patients underwent successful bilateral extracranial-to-intracranial revascularization. The first patient was a 10-year-old girl who presented following a hemorrhagic stroke and recovered well after indirect bypass. The second patient was an adult with a history of childhood stroke whose symptoms progressed in adulthood. She underwent a direct bypass and improved, but continued to experience ...

Delivery of high quality stroke and vision care: experiences of UK services.
CONCLUSIONS: Practical elements for improved stroke and vision care provision are highlighted which can be implemented with relatively little financial inputs. Implications for Rehabilitation Integrated vision services within stroke units can improve the detection of visual problems in stroke survivors leading to earlier visual rehabilitation. Orthoptists within core stroke teams are beneficial to the delivery of a high quality service. This study illustrates clear practical elements to support the provision of high quality integrated stroke and vision services. Relatively little financial inputs are required to fund such ...

Beta-blockers in Pediatric Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathies.
Conclusions: Beta-blocker therapy is without doubt the treatment of choice for patients with heart failure caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but the dose needs to carefully titrated on an individual basis for maximum benefit, and the dose required is surprisingly large in infants with heart failure due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
