COVID-19 Infected ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction in INDIA (COSTA INDIA)
CONCLUSIONS: In this large registry of STEMI patients, we did not find significant excess in in-hospital mortality among COVID-19 co-infected patients compared with non-infected patients despite lower rate of primary PCI and reperfusion treatment, though composite of in-hospital mortality, re-infarction, stroke and heart failure was higher.PMID:37230465 | PMC:PMC10204278 | DOI:10.1016/j.ihj.2023.05.009

Plasma TSH and cardiovascular disease in the general population: A mendelian randomization study of 105,224 individuals
The association between thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and cardiovascular disease has mainly been determined using clinical categories of disease. We tested the hypothesis that TSH on a continuous scale is associated with risk of atrial fibrillation (AF), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, heart failure (HF), aortic valve stenosis (AVS), and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and whether these associations are likely to be causal.

The epidemiology, mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in adult patients with HIV
This article discusses the complex interactions involving HIV infection, the novel and traditional risk factors for CVD, and the antiretroviral HIV therapies which can contribute to CVD in HIV-infected people. In addition, the treatment of HIV+ patients with acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiomyopathy/heart failure are discussed. Current recommended ART and their major side effects are summarized in table format. All medical personnel must be aware of the increasing incidence of CVD on the morbidity and mortality in HIV infected patients and must be watchful for the presence of CVD in their patients with HIV.PM...

U-shaped association between the triglyceride-glucose index and atrial fibrillation incidence in a general population without known cardiovascular disease
CONCLUSIONS: A U-shaped association between the TyG index and AF incidence is observed in Americans without known cardiovascular diseases. Female sex may be a modifier in the association between the TyG index and AF incidence.PMID:37208737 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01777-9

The Intriguing Links Among Patent Foramen Ovale, Patent Foramen Ovale Closure, and the Risk for Heart Failure
Exercise intolerance is the central symptom of heart failure (HF). In the growing subset of patients who have HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), three main hemodynamic mechanisms accounting for limited exercise capacity have been identified1,2: (1) chronotropic incompetence, or the inability to achieve an appropriate increase in heart rate during exertion; (2) an excessive rise in pulmonary capillary pressure during exercise; and (3) reduced stroke volume reserve or cardiac output reserve.

Targeting Hypertensive Response To Exercise And The Association Of Masked Hypertension With Subclinical Organ Damage : A Mini-Review And Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of this, albeit limited, evidence, the diagnostic work-up in individuals with HRE should primarily be addressed to look for MH as well as for markers of HMOD, a highly prevalent alteration in MH.PMID:37195645 | DOI:10.1093/ajh/hpad049

Spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) signals are implicated in cardio-cerebrovascular diseases
Heliyon. 2023 Apr 22;9(5):e15625. doi: 10.1016/j.heliyon.2023.e15625. eCollection 2023 May.ABSTRACTPost-translational modifications regulate numerous biochemical reactions and functions through covalent attachment to proteins. Phosphorylation, acetylation and ubiquitination account for over 90% of all reported post-translational modifications. As one of the tyrosine protein kinases, spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) plays crucial roles in many pathophysiological processes and affects the pathogenesis and progression of various diseases. SYK is expressed in tissues outside the hematopoietic system, especially the heart, and is i...

Effect of Obesity Duration and BMI Trajectories on Cardiovascular Disease: A Narrative Review
AbstractObesity is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). It is crucial to understand the impact of its duration due to the more extended exposure period and the higher frequency of overweight/obesity at younger ages. In the last decade, various studies have discovered that the duration of obesity, in addition to its severity, might have an impact. Therefore, this study aimed to summarize the current literature to investigate the effect of body mass index (BMI) trajectories and overweight/obesity duration on cardiovascular outcomes. To retrieve related articles, we searched PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scho...

Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases: From mechanisms to therapy
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 May 2;163:114817. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114817. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs) remain an intractable problem and have high morbidity and mortality worldwide, as well as substantial health and economic burdens, representing an urgent clinical need. In recent years, the focus of research has shifted from the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for transplantation to the use of their secretory exosomes (MSC-exosomes) for the treatment of numerous CVDs, including atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), ischemia/reperfusio...

CIB2 Is a Novel Endogenous Repressor of Atrial Remodeling
CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that CIB2 represents a novel endogenous and atrial-enriched regulator that protects against atrial remodeling and AF under stress conditions. Therefore, CIB2 may represent a new potential target for treating AF.PMID:37128899 | DOI:10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.122.062660
