Atrial Cardiopathy and the Risk of Ischemic Stroke in the CHS (Cardiovascular Health Study) Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—In addition to clinically apparent AF, other evidence of abnormal atrial substrate is associated with subsequent ischemic stroke. This finding is consistent with the hypothesis that thromboembolism from the left atrium may occur in the setting of several different manifestations of atrial disease.

Stroke and Embolic Events in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: Risk Stratification in Patients Without Atrial Fibrillation Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The incidence of stroke and embolic events was about 1.0% per year in the HCM cohort. AF had not been previously documented before the event in more than half of patients with events. Older age and enlarged left atrial dimension are possible risk factors for embolic events in patients with HCM without documented AF.

Stroke in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: A Retrospective Longitudinal Study in 54 Patients Brief Reports
Conclusions— This study indicates an increased risk for ischemic strokes in DMD patients. Regular cardiological assessment of all DMD patients is mandatory to evaluate the individual risk profile for cardioembolic events and to adapt therapeutic strategies.

Cholesterol Crystal in Thrombus Removed by Mechanical Thrombectomy Should be a Strong Marker for Aortogenic Embolic Stroke
Aortogenic embolic stroke (AES) is an important stroke mechanism. However, as many stroke patients have aortic atheromatous lesions, it is unclear whether these lesions are the cause of these strokes. Cholesterol crystals are the solid, crystalline form of cholesterol that is found in atherosclerosis, but not in cardiac diseases such as atrial fibrillation, valvular diseases, and cardiomyopathy. Therefore, if a cholesterol crystal is found in a thrombus removed by mechanical thrombectomy (MT), this makes it possible to diagnose a patient as having an atheromatous lesion.

Acute ischemic stroke due to Left Ventricular Noncompaction Syndrome from a novel mutation of the Lamin A/C gene (P2.254)
Conclusion: LVNC is a risk factor for cardioembolic ischemic stroke particularly in young patients that is not well known. Patients with suspected LVNC by echocardiography should undergo cardiac MRI for confirmation and genetic testing in particular for mutations in the LMNA gene. Cerebral Embolic Stroke after Disappearing Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy can induce cerebral embolic stroke because of intracardiac thrombosis, but the timing of cardiogenic embolism relating to takotsubo cardiomyopathy has not been well described. We evaluated a 71-year-old woman with takotsubo cardiomyopathy, who developed cardiogenic cerebral embolism after recovery of cardiac wall motion. Nevertheless, we treated her with anticoagulation therapy. The present clinical observation suggests that attention should be paid to the timing when takotsubo cardiomyopathy resolves against risk of cardiogenic cerebral embolism.
