Gastric Bypass Surgery Produces a Durable Reduction in Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors and Reduces the Long-Term Risks of Congestive Heart Failure Preventive Cardiology
ConclusionsGastric bypass is associated with a reduced risk of major cardiovascular events and the development of congestive heart failure.

Ischemic Stroke in a Young Patient Heralding a Left Ventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy
We report the case of a young woman whose ischemic stroke led to the diagnosis of a rare embolic cardiomyopathy, left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy, requiring a heart transplant.Case Rep Neurol 2017;9:204 –209

Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy with transient global amnesia and cerebellar embolic stroke triggered by existential fear
Conclusions TGA is not a disease for the neurologists exclusively but also cardiac comorbidities have to be considered and cardiologists should be involved in the acute care of these patients in order not to overlook life-threatening diseases.

Anticoagulation in patients with cardiac manifestations of Chagas disease and cardioembolic ischemic stroke
Conclusion Patients with Chagas disease an d previous CIS had better control of INR with a higher frequency of minor bleeding.RESUMO Objetivos descrever as caracter ísticas da anticoagulação em pacientes com manifestações cardíacas da doença de Chagas (MCDC) e comparar os participantes com sem acidente vascular cerebral isquêmico cardioembólico (AVCIC).

Independent Prognostic Value of Stroke Volume Index in Patients With Immunoglobulin Light Chain Amyloidosis Cardio-Oncology
Conclusions: SV index prognostic performance was similar to left ventricular strain in predicting survival in AL amyloidosis, independently of biomarker staging. Because SV index is routinely calculated and widely available, it could serve as the preferred echocardiographic measure to predict outcomes in AL amyloidosis patients.

Perioperative changes of the slope in the preload recruitable stroke work relationship by a single-beat technique after mitral valve surgery in functional mitral regurgitation with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsThe change of slope was dependent on surgical procedures. In functional mitral regurgitation, the slope may be a more sensitive parameter in reflecting the left ventricular contractile function than the left ventricular ejection fraction.

Research Articles Ventricular stroke work and vascular impedance refine the characterization of patients with aortic stenosis
Aortic stenosis (AS) management is classically guided by symptoms and valvular metrics. However, the natural history of AS is dictated by coupling of the left ventricle, aortic valve, and vascular system. We investigated whether metrics of ventricular and vascular state add to the appreciation of AS state above valve gradient alone. Seventy patients with severe symptomatic AS were prospectively followed from baseline to 30 days after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Quality of life (QOL) was assessed using the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire. Left ventricular stroke work (SWLV) and vascular impedance...

Young Stroke: An Unusual Presentation of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia
We report a case of ARVD presenting with features of acute ischemic cerebrovascular stroke. The suspicion of ARVD came only when the echocardiogram revealed dilatation and abnormal wall motion of the right ventricle in the presence of certain ECG findings consistent with ARVD. The diagnosis was later confirmed by cardiac MRI which is one of the most specific diagnostic tests for ARVD.
