Elevated Hemoglobin A1c Is Associated With Leaky Plaque Neovasculature as Detected by Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging
CONCLUSIONS: Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of carotid plaques suggested that plaque neovasculature in patients with diabetes is leaky, indicating enhanced capability of bringing blood constituents and facilitating extravasation of inflammatory cells, erythrocytes, and plasma proteins. Leaky plaque neovasculature correlated with hemoglobin A1c and may play a role in accelerated atherosclerosis progression in diabetes.PMID:35236109 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.121.317190

Eagle Syndrome: A Rare Cause of Stroke in a Young Patient
We report the case of a 26-year-old man who presented to the emergency department because he noticed that his right hand had become clumsy. He first noticed this symptom five days before his presentation, but he noticed that his symptom had improved significantly since it began. He reported that he had episodes of neck pain and pain around the ear. He visited the family physician clinic several times for this complaint and was diagnosed as having a temporomandibular joint disorder. Neurological examination revealed decreased muscle strength in the right upper limb with a power of 4/5 along with a sensory deficit. The coord...

Comparison of magnetic resonance angiography techniques to brain digital subtraction arteriography in the setting of mechanical thrombectomy: A non-inferiority study
CONCLUSION: Both MRA techniques are inferior to brain DSA in localizing arterial occlusions in LVO-AIS patients despite addressing the migratory nature of the thrombus.PMID:35148908 | DOI:10.1016/j.neurol.2021.12.009

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis as a complication of COVID-19 infection - A case report
CONCLUSION: High index of suspicion of CVST is necessary when a patient presents with unexplained neurological manifestation following a recent COVID-19 infection to prevent from life-threatening complications. Furthermore, clinicians should not underestimate the multisystem involvement of COVID-19.PMID:35127077 | PMC:PMC8800506 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103326

Association between Short-Term Blood Pressure Variability and Intracranial Atherosclerotic Plaque Vulnerability: A High-Resolution Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study
CONCLUSION: nighttime diastolic BP CV and 24-h BPVR were associated with intracranial IPH independently, especially in the elderly and subjects with hypertension.PMID:34707024 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63164

Factors associated with early improvement after intravenous thrombolytic treatment in acute ischemic stroke
CONCLUSION: : Management of factors associated with ENI and determination of treatment strategies accordingly are important for obtaining a better clinical outcome. It can help quickly select patients, who, even though they will not respond to rt-PA, may be appropriate candidates for bridging therapy.PMID:34706632 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2021.1996980

Cardioembolic Stroke Due to Cardiac Sarcoidosis Diagnosed by Pathological Evaluation of the Retrieved Thrombus
Intern Med. 2021 Oct 26. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.7963-21. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 70-year-old woman undergoing glucocorticoid therapy for cardiac sarcoidosis was brought to our hospital with the sudden onset of right hemiplegia and aphasia. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed a high diffusion-weighted imaging signal in the left frontotemporal lobe and disruption of blood flow in the M1 segment of the left middle cerebral artery. Hence, she underwent thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, resulting in marked improvement in her neurological symptoms. A pathologic evaluation of the thrombus suggested its ...

Elevated Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity Relates to Longitudinal Gray and White Matter Changes
CONCLUSIONS: In older adults, higher baseline aortic PWV related to greater decrease in gray matter volume and greater increase in WMHs over time. Because of unmet cerebral metabolic demands and microvascular remodeling, arterial stiffening may preferentially affect certain highly active brain regions like the temporal lobes. These same regions are affected early in the course of Alzheimer disease.PMID:34706559 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.121.316477
