Ocular Manifestations, Visual Field Pattern, and Visual Field Test Performance in Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke
CONCLUSION: Various ocular manifestations were found, and a considerable proportion of patients were experiencing VF defects and showed unreliable VF test performance. Our findings suggest that accurate evaluation and rehabilitation of visual function should be a matter of greater concern and emphasis in the management of TBI and stroke patients, besides systemic diseases.PMID:35036002 | PMC:PMC8759901 | DOI:10.1155/2022/1703806

Associations of ophthalmic and systemic conditions with incident dementia in the UK Biobank
CONCLUSIONS: AMD, cataract and DRED but not glaucoma are associated with an increased risk of dementia. Identification of a New Genetic Mutation Associated With Peters Anomaly
Conclusions: PA might be associated with the mutation c.181_189delinsAGGTTTCCG; p.Gly61Arg in the COL4A1 gene. The COL4A1 gene encodes for collagen IVα1, an essential component of basal membranes, and mutations are associated with an increased risk for renal and cerebrovascular disorders and stroke. This should be considered when advising and monitoring patients.

Low- and moderate-dose non-cancer effects of ionizing radiation in directly exposed individuals, especially circulatory and ocular diseases: a review of the epidemiology.
CONCLUSIONS: We document statistically significant excess risk of the major types of circulatory disease, specifically ischemic heart disease and stroke, in moderate- or low-dose exposed groups, with some not altogether consistent evidence suggesting dose response non-linearity, particularly for stroke. However, the patterns of risk reported are not straightforward. How Good is Photoscreening For Young Children ’ s Vision Problems?
This study showed that not only was smartphone photoscreening feasible, but was quite good at screening for potential vision problems. Smartphone photoscreening has the advantages of being more ubiquitously available and thus children in almost any location can be screened. A study of photoscreening using a handheld digital photoscreener in primary care offices validated the technology showing an overall referral rate of 10% to an ophthalmologist with suspected astigmatism, anisometropia and strabismus being the most common reasons. AbstractA singleton fetus was referred to fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 25  weeks due to mild ventriculomegaly and an abnormal fetal echocardiogram showing cardiomegaly, right ventricular hypertrophy and tricuspid insufficiency. Patchy areas of ischemic infarction, extensive subacute and chronic hemorrhage not respecting vascular territories, encephaloclastic cysts and cl osed lip schizencephaly were identified. In this study, general characteristics and health data were assessed using modified versions of Fried’s Frailty Phenotype (mFFP) and the Frail Non-Disabled (FiND) questionnaire (mFiND) to construct a Self-Organizing Map (SOM). Trained data, composed of the component planes of each variable, were visualized using 2-dimentional hexagonal grid maps. The relationship between the variables and the final SOM was then investigated.
