Association of Delirium Incidence with Visitation Restrictions due to COVID-19 Pandemic in Patients with Acute Cerebrovascular Disease in a Stroke-Unit Setting: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusion: Pandemic-associated visitation restrictions and specifically absolute visitation restrictions are associated with a higher incidence of delirium among stroke-unit patients with acute cerebrovascular disease. Benefit and harm of visitation restrictions should be carefully weighed and adjustments considered for patients otherwise at increased risk for delirium.Gerontology

Neurological consequences of COVID-19
Pharmacol Rep. 2022 Sep 30. doi: 10.1007/s43440-022-00424-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn December 2019, cases of pneumonia caused by infection with the previously unknown severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), leading to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), were identified. Typical manifestations of COVID-19 are fever, cough, fatigue and dyspnoea. Initially, it was thought that the mechanism of action of SARS-CoV-2 was only associated with respiratory tract invasion, but it was later revealed that the infection might involve many other organs and systems, including the central and peripheral ner...

There is urgent need to treat atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk earlier, more intensively, and with greater precision: A review of current practice and recommendations for improved effectiveness
Am J Prev Cardiol. 2022 Aug 6;12:100371. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpc.2022.100371. eCollection 2022 Dec.ABSTRACTAtherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is epidemic throughout the world and is etiologic for such acute cardiovascular events as myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, unstable angina, and death. ASCVD also impacts risk for dementia, chronic kidney disease peripheral arterial disease and mobility, impaired sexual response, and a host of other visceral impairments that adversely impact the quality and rate of progression of aging. The relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and risk for AS...

The Contemporary Impact of Body Mass Index on Open Aortic Aneurysm Repair
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has deemed obesity a national epidemic and contributor to other leading causes of death including heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Accordingly, the impact of body mass index (BMI) has been a focus of investigation. The BMI surgical literature remains conflicted pertaining to open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (oAAA). The purpose of this study was to quantify the effect of BMI on oAAA outcomes in contemporary practice.

Age-dependent and sex-dependent differences in mortality from influenza-associated cardiovascular diseases among older adults in Shanghai, China: a population-based study
Conclusions Excess mortality rates for CVDs associated with influenza increased with age in older adults. The risk for influenza-associated IHD mortality was significantly higher in older women than men. Our findings will help implement targeted health strategies, including the promotion of influenza vaccination and early therapeutic intervention for the older population with CVD, to curb the influenza burden effectively.

A likelihood swarm whale optimization based LeNet classifier approach for the prediction and diagnosis of patients with atherosclerosis disease
Comput Methods Biomech Biomed Engin. 2022 Sep 1:1-12. doi: 10.1080/10255842.2022.2116577. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCoronary Artery Disease (CAD) caused by atherosclerosis is having huge impact and is considered an epidemic one in all over the world. Cardio vascular disease (CVD) in 2019 records is about 32% of global death rate. Among these deaths, 85% were caused by heart attack and stroke. Atherosclerosis is regarded as a condition at which the arteries become hardened and narrowed due to the plaque accumulation around the walls of arteries. The disease growth is slow, asymptomatic, sudden cardiac arrest, myocardial...
