Apolipoprotein A-I vascular gene therapy reduces vein-graft atherosclerosis
Mol Ther Methods Clin Dev. 2023 Aug 22;30:558-572. doi: 10.1016/j.omtm.2023.08.018. eCollection 2023 Sep 14.ABSTRACTCoronary artery venous bypass grafts typically fail because of atherosclerosis driven by lipid and macrophage accumulation. Therapy for vein-graft atherosclerosis is limited to statin drugs, which are only modestly effective. We hypothesized that transduction of vein-graft endothelium of fat-fed rabbits with a helper-dependent adenovirus expressing apolipoprotein AI (HDAdApoAI) would reduce lipid and macrophage accumulation. Fat-fed rabbits received bilateral external jugular vein-to-carotid artery interposit...

FOXO1 regulates NLRP3 inflammasome proteins in LPS-induced cardiotoxicity
CONCLUSION: FOXO1 overexpression attenuated apoptosis, ROS generation, and inflammation, whereas FOXO1 inhibition aggravated LPS-induced cardiomyocyte injury via the NLRP3 inflammasome signaling pathway.PMID:37692952 | PMC:PMC10492091

Antibacterial activity of hexane and methanol fractions of some selected plants against < em > Klebsiella pneumoniae < /em >
This study, therefore, investigated the antibacterial activity of some selected plants (Pandanus tectorius, Nypa fruticans, Sonneratia alba, Phaleria macrocarpa, Hibiscus tiliaceus, and Pongamia pinnata) against K. pneumoniae. In this study, samples were extracted successively by cold maceration using hexane and methanol. Antibacterial activity was determined by well and disc diffusion methods. Each fraction was prepared by two-fold dilutions from 20 mg/mL to 0.156 mg/mL. All data were analyzed in triplicate replication and presented as mean values ± standard deviation. Results showed that all methanol fractions of select...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, September 11th 2023
This article reviews the current regulatory role of miR-7 in inflammation and related diseases, including viral infection, autoimmune hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and encephalitis. It expounds on the molecular mechanism by which miR-7 regulates the occurrence of inflammatory diseases. Finally, the existing problems and future development directions of miR-7-based intervention on inflammation and related diseases are discussed to provide new references and help strengthen the understanding of the pathogenesis of inflammation and related diseases, as well as the development of new strategies for clinical interventi...

Upregulation of hypothalamic TRPV4 via S100a4/AMPK α signaling pathway promotes the development of diet-induced obesity
This study provides evidence that hypothalamic TRPV4 plays a significant role in regulating homeostasis. Hypothalamic TRPV4 emerges as a target for therapeutic intervention against obesity.PMID:37683711 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbadis.2023.166883

Accelerated Atherosclerosis in Beta Thalassemia
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00306.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChildren with Beta Thalassemia (BT) present with an increase in carotid intima-medial thickness, an early sign suggestive of premature atherosclerosis. However, it is unknown if there is a direct relationship between BT and atherosclerotic disease. To evaluate this, WT (littermates) and BT (Hbbth3/+) mice, both male and female, were placed on a 3-month high fat diet with low-density lipoprotein receptor suppression via overexpression of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) gain-of-function mutation ...
