Oroxylin A has therapeutic potential in acute myelogenous leukemia by dual effects targeting PPARγ and RXRα
Abstract Oroxylin A (OA) is a flavonoid derived from a Chinese herb that has previously been reported to inhibit the proliferation of several cancer cell lines. It is found that OA significantly inhibited the growth of myeloid leukemia cell lines and as xenografts in immunodeficient mice and primary blasts from acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) patients. Furthermore, OA‐induced cell cycle arrest and differentiation were observed in OA‐treated AML cell lines. Abstract Dihydrodiol dehydrogenase (DDH) is frequently detected in cancer cells, and its overexpression correlates with drug resistance, the downregulation of DNA repair mechanisms, increased frequency of tumor recurrence, cancer cell metastasis and poor prognosis. The silencing of DDH expression using siRNA, on the other hand, reduces drug resistance and cancer cell mobility. These data suggest that DDH may be an oncogene-related protein. Salvianolic Acid B Induces Apoptosis in Human Glioma U87 Cells Through p38-Mediated ROS Generation.
Abstract Salvianolic acid B (SalB), the main water-soluble bioactive compounds isolated from the traditional Chinese medical herb Danshen, has been shown to exert anti-cancer effect in several cancer cell lines. The aim of our study was to investigate the potential anti-cancer effect of SalB in human glioma U87 cells. We found that treatment with SalB significantly decreased cell viability of U87 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Ephedrine induced Thioredoxin-1 expression through β-adrenergic receptors/Cyclic AMP/protein kinase A/dopamine- and Cyclic AMP-regulated phosphoprotein signaling pathway.
In this study, we found that Eph induced Trx-1 expression, which was inhibited by propranolol (β-adrenergic receptors inhibitor), but not by phenoxybenzamine (α-adrenergic receptors inhibitor) in rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells. Moreover, the increase of Trx-1 expression was inhibited by SQ22536 (adenylyl cyclase inhibitor) and H-89 (protein kinase A inhibitor). Ginkgo biloba Extract Reduces High-Glucose-Induced Endothelial Reactive Oxygen Species Generation and Cell Adhesion Molecule Expression by Enhancing HO-1 Expression via Akt/eNOS and P38 MAP Kinase Pathways.
CONCLUSION: GBE could reduce high glucose-induced endothelial adhesion via enhancing HO-1 expression through the Akt/eNOS and P38/MAPK pathways. Our findings suggest a potential strategy targeting on HO-1 induction by GBE for endothelial protection in the presence of high glucose such as that in diabetes mellitus.
