Upregulated serum sclerostin level in the T2DM patients with femur fracture inhibits the expression of bone formation/remodeling-associated biomarkers via antagonizing Wnt signaling.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that the upregulated serum sclerostin level in the T2DM patients with fracture inhibited the expression of the bone formation/remodeling-associated biomarkers via antagonizing Wnt signaling. It suggests that sclerostin might be an effective target for T2DM-associated bone fracture and delayed fracture healing. PMID: 28239825 [PubMed - in process]

Adiponectin partially rescues high glucose/high fat-induced impairment of mitochondrial biogenesis and function in a PGC-1 α dependent manner.
CONCLUSIONS: In the current study, we have provided the direct in vitro evidence that APN partially rescues HGHF-induced impairment of mitochondrial biogenesis and function via PGC-1α-mediated signaling. PMID: 28239807 [PubMed - in process]

MicroRNA15b regulates apoptosis of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma SCL-1 cell line: a mechanism study.
CONCLUSIONS: MicroRNA15b reduced the cell viability and promoted the apoptosis of SCL-1 cells via down-regulating the expression of survivin. MicroRNA15b could be a potential therapeutic target for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. PMID: 28165568 [PubMed - in process]

HOXA13 upregulation in gastric cancer is associated with enhanced cancer cell invasion and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition.
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides additional evidence about the association between HOXA13 upregulation and gastric cancer progression. Also, we showed that HOXA13 contributes to invasion and EMT of gastric cancer cells via the TGF-b signaling pathway. PMID: 28165563 [PubMed - in process]

IL-6 induced lncRNA MALAT1 enhances TNF- α expression in LPS-induced septic cardiomyocytes via activation of SAA3.
CONCLUSIONS: IL-6 induced MALAT1 upregulation in cardiomyocytes in response to LPS treatment. MALAT1 can enhance TNF-α expression at least partly via SAA3 in LPS-treated cardiomyocytes. MALAT1 upregulation is a mechanism of cardiomyocyte death in response to the LPS stimulation. PMID: 28165557 [PubMed - in process]

Thrombomodulin regulates doxorubicin sensitivity through epithelial-mesenchymal transition in non-small cell lung cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings showed that TM regulated drug sensitivity through EMT in lung cancer cells, suggesting that TM might be developed into a novel target for lung cancer patients resistant to conventional therapeutics. PMID: 28121350 [PubMed - in process]

Quercetin upregulates ABCA1 expression through liver X receptor alpha signaling pathway in THP-1 macrophages.
CONCLUSIONS: Quercetin could increase ABCA1 expression and cholesterol efflux through LXRα pathway to eventually promote RCT in the THP-1 macrophage. PMID: 27735019 [PubMed - in process]

USF1 prompt melanoma through upregulating TGF- β signaling pathway.
CONCLUSIONS: We first demonstrate that overexpression of USF1 prompts the EMT process through the accumulation of TGF-β1 production in melanoma cells. PMID: 27649659 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Targeting miR-29 induces apoptosis of osteosarcoma MG-63 cells via regulation of TGF- β1/PUMA signal.
CONCLUSIONS: Targeting miR-29 exhibits significant in vivo and in vitro anti-tumor activities in OS through a novel mechanism resulting in inhibition of TGF-β1 expression and inducing PUMA expression. PMID: 27649654 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

LncRNA MIAT enhances cardiac hypertrophy partly through sponging miR-150.
CONCLUSIONS: MIAT is significantly increased in Ang II induced cardiac hypertrophy and contributes to the pathological development. MIAT can suppress miR-150 expression in cardiomyocytes and miR-150 is a downstream effector of MIAT in the development of cardiac hypertrophy. PMID: 27649667 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

MiR-200c and miR-141 inhibit ZEB1 synergistically and suppress glioma cell growth and migration.
CONCLUSIONS: MiR-200c and miR-141 are significantly downregulated in glioma tissues and cell lines and can significantly induce ZEB1 mRNA degradation and suppress ZEB1 protein expression in the cells. ZEB1 is a functional downstream target of miR-200c and miR-141 in inhibiting glioma cell growth and migration. PMID: 27608897 [PubMed - in process]

The influence of HOXA5-specific siRNA on the expression of Livin and Smac proteins.
CONCLUSIONS: HOXA5-specific siRNA effectively silenced the HOXA5 gene expression and down-regulation of HOXA5 induced the down-regulation of Livin protein expression and up-regulation of Smac protein. We suggest the HOXA5 gene to be considered as the new target for acute leukemia gene therapy. PMID: 27460741 [PubMed - in process]
