Primary Human Papillomavirus Testing and Other New Technologies for Cervical Cancer Screening
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005393. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCervical cancer screening has saved the lives of millions in regions where routine gynecologic care is readily accessible. As screening continues to evolve away from cervical cytology to primary human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, robust prospective cohort data have allowed for precise risk stratification and improved our ability to identify those at greatest risk of high-grade dysplasia and decrease unnecessary diagnostic procedures. New technologies such as p16/Ki-67 dual stain testing and HPV methylation panels, which offer com...

Prevalence and Identification of Nasal Airway Obstruction in Patients Presenting to Otolaryngology Clinics: Results From a Large Descriptive Practice Survey
Conclusions: The findings of this large, descriptive otolaryngology practice survey found a high prevalence of moderate to severe/extreme NAO among patients presenting to otolaryngology practices. Incorporating assessments, such as the NOSE Scale score and other diagnostic practices into the patient intake workflow and assessments, could help identify symptomatic NAO patients that might otherwise be overlooked.PMID:37705360 | DOI:10.1177/01455613231196670

Care and Monitoring of Pregnant Patients With Left Ventricular Assist Devices
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 Sep 14. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005351. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in the United States. Although still rare, pregnancy in patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) is becoming more common. Typical indications for the use of LVADs in reproductive-aged females include ischemic cardiomyopathy, nonischemic (familial) dilated cardiomyopathy, peripartum cardiomyopathy, and some forms of myocarditis. An LVAD drains blood through a cannula placed into the apex of the left ventricle and then returns it to the proximal a...

Speech-Language Pathologists' Preparation, Practices, and Perspectives on Serving Indigenous Families and Children
CONCLUSIONS: Very few respondents had training on serving Indigenous children and families, yet they had overall awareness of educational disparities experienced by this group. Respondents reported challenges with developing relationships and overcoming access barriers. Their clinical practices were not as tailored to the language and learning needs of Indigenous children, especially when compared to practices recommended in two recent scoping reviews. The Indigenous Connectedness Framework, the abundance model, and Indigenous pedagogies are presented as ways to initiate change and meaningful engagement with Indigenous fam...
