Clinical improvement in early onset interstitial lung disease using rituximab in children with anti-MDA5 positive juvenile dermatomyositis
CONCLUSION: This is the first study to examine the use of RTX in children with JDM and anti-MDA5 antibodies, with notable improvements ILD, cutaneous and musculoskeletal manifestations. Further studies are needed to better understand the efficacy of RTX on JDM disease related complications.PMID:37714547 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0544

Epiberberine suppresses the metastasis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cells by regulating the MMP-13 and  JNK pathway
In conclusion, the present study demonstrates that epiberberine suppresses cell migration and invasion by regulating the JNK pathway and MMP-13. These results suggest that epiberberine could be a potential antimetastatic agent in HNSCC cells.PMID:37710409 | DOI:10.1111/jcmm.17954

Long term prognosis of anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5-positive dermatomyositis with interstitial lung disease
CONCLUSION: Triple combination therapy in the induction phase can reduce the risk of recurrence and facilitate drug withdrawal in anti-MDA5-positive DM-ILD.PMID:37714541 | DOI:10.3899/jrheum.2023-0371

Podophyllotoxin reduces the aggressiveness of human oral squamous cell carcinoma through myeloid cell leukemia ‑1
Int J Mol Med. 2023 Nov;52(5):103. doi: 10.3892/ijmm.2023.5306. Epub 2023 Sep 15.ABSTRACTPodophyllotoxin (PPT), which is derived from the podophyllum plant, exhibits marked cytotoxic effects against cancer cells; however, the precise molecular mechanism underlying its activity against human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has not been elucidated. In the present study, the mechanism by which PPT induced cytotoxicity in two OSCC cell lines, HSC3 and HSC4, was determined. The effects of PPT on cytotoxicity in HSC3 and HSC4 cells were analyzed using Annexin V/PI double staining, Sub‑G1 analysis, soft agar assays, western...

Biosynthesis, Characterization, and Bioactivity of L-Alanyl-L-tyrosine in Promoting Melanin Synthesis
In this study, L-Ala-Tyr was successfully prepared by using α-ester acyltransferase as biocatalyst and alanine methyl ester (L-Ala-OMe) and tyrosine (L-Tyr) as acyl donor and nucleophile, respectively. The dipeptide yield was increased from 15 to 50% by optimizing the conditions: boric acid-borax (0.2 mol/L), 30°C, pH 9.5, 2:1 acyl donor to nucleophile ratio, DES (ChCl/urea), and 15%(v/v) water content. The catalytic product is then isolated and purified. The structure of the product was identified by high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and carbon spectroscopy. It...

Margin status in vulvovaginal melanoma: Management and oncologic outcomes of 50 cases
CONCLUSION: Preinvasive disease at the surgical margins may play an important role in local recurrence in patients with Stage I-II vulvovaginal melanoma. Patients with early (Stage 0) and advanced (Stage III) disease rarely recur locally and may not benefit from re-resection.PMID:37711973 | PMC:PMC10497797 | DOI:10.1016/j.gore.2023.101268
