Congenital cutaneous candidiasis associated with maternal peripartum candidemia.
CONCLUSIONS: CCC must be considered in full-term newborns with maculopapular rash at birth or during the first days of life. The absence of alternative sources for bloodstream infection in the present case suggests a potential etiopathogenic relationship between CCC and maternal candidemia. It is reasonable to rule out postpartum candidemia when CCC is suspected. PMID: 32493666 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Revista Iberoamericana de Micologia)

Taking a look on fungi in cystic fibrosis: More questions than answers.
cute;mez MT Abstract Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the most frequent recessive inherited diseases in western countries. Advances in medical care have led to a substantial increase in the life expectancy of CF patients. Survival beyond adolescence has permitted to see fungi not only as late colonizers, but also as potential pathogens responsible of allergic reactions and chronic infections related to lung function deterioration. The role of fungi, nevertheless, has been overlooked until recently. As a result, a number of questions on their epidemiology, clinical significance, or diagnosis, among others, remain una...

[GEMICOMED/GEIRAS-SEIMC recommendations for the management of Candida auris infection and colonization].
en nombre de GEMICOMED GEIRAS-SEIMC Abstract Candida auris is a new species of Candida that causes nosocomial outbreaks in several countries around the world, including Spain. C.auris is resistant to fluconazole and multi- and pan-resistant strains have been described. It is highly transmissible and can survive long term in the hospital environment, causing long-lasting outbreaks that are difficult to detect in early stages, and making it difficult to control and eradicate. It is currently an emerging threat to global health. This document provides a set of guidelines, developed by a multidisciplinary team, to lim...

Identification of medically important yeasts by sequence analysis of the internal transcribed spacer and D1/D2 region of the large ribosomal subunit.
CONCLUSIONS: Identifying medically important yeasts by sequencing the ITS and D1/D2 region is a rapid and reliable alternative to conventional identification methods. Biosynthesis of chemical compounds by Candida albicans and Candida glabrata.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate that both C. albicans and C. glabrata have enzymatic and non-enzymatic mechanisms that allow them to achieve homeostasis in a different specific manner for each of the single metals to which they were exposed. To our knowledge, this is the first work reporting that C. albicans and C. glabrata can reduce different metals, with the subsequent formation of sulfides, sulfates, phosphates and oxides. This ability, developed over time by these Candida species, is probably a kind of biochemical mechanism in order to survive and colonize many different environments, from water or soil to humans.
