Patient-Reported Outcomes and Computed Tomography Review After Minimally Invasive Fusion of the Sacroiliac Joint With Aggressive Joint Decortication and Joint Compression
Orthopedics. 2023 Sep 6:1-7. doi: 10.3928/01477447-20230901-04. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a common, underrecognized source of low back pain. We evaluated outcomes in patients undergoing sacroiliac joint fusion (SIJF) using a novel, minimally invasive SIJF system emphasizing compressive forces across an aggressively debrided SIJ. We retrospectively reviewed data from a continuous set of patients presenting to a large, tertiary care hospital from September 2017 to August 2019. All patients received the novel SIJF device. Outcomes were assessed at 8 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months using the Os...

Development and evaluation of the gender-specific CONSTANCES job exposure matrix for physical risk factors in France
This study aimed to construct and evaluate a gender-specific job exposure matrix (JEM) for 27 physical work exposures, based on self-report. Methods We constructed a JEM using questionnaire data on current physical exposures from 29 381 male and 35 900 female asymptomatic workers aged 18–69 years in the French CONSTANCES cohort study. We excluded workers with musculoskeletal pain to reduce potential reporting bias. We grouped 27 self-reported physical exposures using the French national job codes and stratified by gender. We compared individual and group-based exposures using the performance indicators Cohen’s kappa (...

Hypoxia-treated adipose mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes attenuate lumbar facet joint osteoarthritis
CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that hypoxia is an effective method to improve the therapeutic effect of ADSC-Exos on ameliorating spinal pain and LFJ OA progression.PMID:37670256 | DOI:10.1186/s10020-023-00709-3

Development and evaluation of the gender-specific CONSTANCES job exposure matrix for physical risk factors in France
CONCLUSION: The constructed JEM validation measures were comparable for men and women for all exposures. Further research will examine the predictive ability of this gender-specific JEM for musculoskeletal disorders and the relevance of gender-stratification in this process, knowing accuracy of each exposure.PMID:37669536 | DOI:10.5271/sjweh.4118

Osteolytic bone lesions as an initial presenting manifestation of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a mini review
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2023 Jul 20;85(9):4404-4409. doi: 10.1097/MS9.0000000000001065. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTHematological malignancies can lead to bone lesions, and the most common example is the osteolytic lesions found in multiple myeloma. Cases of osteolytic lesions have been rarely reported in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Waldenström macroglobulinemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, and myeloproliferative neoplasms. This review sheds light on the association between ALL and osteolytic bone lesions. To our knowledge, we found 15 cases of patients with ALL who de...

Huge solitary gallstone complicated with liver cirrhosis in a middle-aged woman: case report
CONCLUSIONS: A missed gallstone disease occurs due to various factors including inappropriate standard operating procedures, which set a CT scan as the first imaging test for all internal conditions. This case report presents the appropriate approach to achieving the diagnosis of a gallstone disease before surgical intervention.PMID:37663725 | PMC:PMC10473310 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000296

Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis: a rare case report from Syria
CONCLUSIONS: The disease progresses slowly and is often diagnosed incidentally. Lung transplantation remains the only effective treatment.PMID:37663718 | PMC:PMC10473359 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001060

Oral Therapeutics Post Menopausal Osteoporosis
Cureus. 2023 Aug 2;15(8):e42870. doi: 10.7759/cureus.42870. eCollection 2023 Aug.ABSTRACTOsteoporosis affects a significant number of postmenopausal women in the United States. Screening is performed using clinical assessments and bone mineral density scans via dual x-ray absorptiometry. Oral therapy is indicated to prevent pathologic fractures in those deemed at increased risk following screening. Bisphosphonates including alendronate, ibandronate, and risedronate are currently first-line oral therapeutics in fracture prevention following the diagnosis of osteoporosis. Hormonal therapies include estrogen-containing therap...
