Portal Vein Aneurysm: Case Report
A 43-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, herpes simplex, and tobacco use presented with a 6- to 8-month history of abdominal pain. Other symptoms included back pain, bloating, and occasional postprandial abdominal pain. She underwent a computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen/pelvis, which revealed a portal vein aneurysm located at the portomesenteric junction and measured 38  mm. On physical examination, she had generalized tenderness that was worse over the right upper quadrant. Since it was uncertain that her symptoms were due to the portal vein aneurysm, she was referred to gastroenterology and an upper...

Age and postoperative opioid use in women undergoing pelvic organ prolapse surgery
ConclusionsIn the context of POP surgery, we found that younger women were more likely to use opioids after surgery and to use a higher dose in the first 24  hours when compared with older women. These findings support physicians to consider age when counseling POP patients regarding pain management after surgery, and to direct resources aimed at opioid-free pain control towards younger patients.

Laparoscopic intracorporeal rectus aponeuroplasty (LIRA) technique versus intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM plus) for ventral hernia repair: a comparative analysis
ConclusionsIn this study, even if we analysed a small series, LIRA showed lower bulging and recurrence rates in comparison to IPOM plus at one-year follow-up. Further prospective studies, with a large sample of patients and longer follow-up are required to draw definitive conclusions.

Hydrogel dressings for donor sites of split-thickness skin grafts
CONCLUSIONS: There is insufficient evidence to determine the effect of hydrogel dressings on donor site wounds of split thickness skin grafts compared with other types of dressings. There is a need for adequately powered and well-designed RCTs, with adequate sample sizes, types of populations and subgroups, types of interventions, and outcomes, that compare hydrogel dressings with other treatment options in the treatment of donor site wounds of split-thickness skin grafts.PMID:37584338 | PMC:PMC10428215 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD013570.pub2

Occupational mechanical exposures as risk factor for chronic low-back pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Moderate evidence of an association was found for lifting/carrying loads, non-neutral postures, and combined mechanical exposures. Low or very low evidence was found for whole-body vibrations, standing/walking, and sitting. Studies using standardized exposure definition, metric, and technical measurements are highly warranted. by Jahn A, Andersen JH, Christiansen DH, Seidler A, Dalbøge A. doi:10.5271/sjweh.4112
