CDC Wants Doctors To Look Out For Mystery Illness In Kids That May Be Linked To Coronavirus
(CNN) — The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is preparing to release an alert warning doctors to be on the lookout for a dangerous inflammatory syndrome in children that could be linked to coronavirus infection, a CDC spokesman told CNN Tuesday. The syndrome, marked by persistent fever, inflammation, poor function in one or more organs, and other symptoms similar to shock, was first reported by New York officials. More states began reporting diagnoses of the syndrome this week. An informal panel of pediatricians organized by Boston Children’s Hospital have dubbed the mysterious illness “Pedia...

The effect of corticosteroid treatment on patients with coronavirus infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis
In December 2019, the pneumonia caused by a new coronavirus spread in Wuhan, China. Unbiased sequencing of samples from patients with pneumonia reveals a previously unknown type of beta-coronavirus which is similar to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).1 The causative agent was named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) by Coronavirus Study Group, and the disease it caused was named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Becoming a Faithful Defender: Traditional Chinese Medicine against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Abstract The outbreak caused by COVID-19 is causing a major challenge to clinical management and a worldwide threat to public health. So far, there is no specific anti-coronavirus therapy approved for the treatment of COVID-19. Recently, as the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is widely acknowledged, it has been brought to a crucial status by the public, governments, and World Health Organization (WHO). For a better popularization of TCM, governments have made several advances in regulations and policies for treatment and measures of novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP). Therefore, on the bas...

Sudden hearing loss and coronavirus disease 2019: the role of corticosteroid intra-tympanic injection in hearing improvement
CONCLUSION: This case report supports evidence from other case reports of a possible association between coronavirus disease 2019 and sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Sudden sensorineural hearing loss may be a symptom of this disease that behaves as an underlying aggravating factor. Intra-tympanic injection of corticosteroids is recommended for managing these patients during the pandemic.PMID:33913413 | DOI:10.1017/S0022215121001080

Current strategies in diagnostics and therapeutics against novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19)
This article highlights our understanding of the novel coronavirus's symptoms in brief, pathogenesis, diagnostics, and therapeutic strategies to contain COVID-19. The clinical findings, including serological, radiological, and other advanced diagnostic strategies, contributed much to control the disease. To date, supportive interventions have been used in tandem with potent antiviral therapies such as remdesivir, lopinavir/ritonavir, or corticosteroids with a level of trust in the care of COVID-19 patients. However, in several areas of the world, vaccination initiatives took place; the vaccines' safety and efficacy to cont...

Can Coronavirus Disease 2019 Induce Sarcoidosis: A Case Report
Thorac Res Pract. 2023 Jan;24(1):45-58. doi: 10.5152/ThoracResPract.2023.22076.ABSTRACTSince the emergence of coronavirus disease 2019, a large spectrum of clinical manifestations following this acute viral infection has been reported especially autoimmune manifestations and inflammatory disorders. However, a causal link has not yet been established. Herein, we reported a case of pulmonary mediastinal sarcoidosis following coronavirus disease 2019 infection. A 41-year-old woman with no clinical or radiographic symptoms or signs of sarcoidosis prior to coronavirus disease 2019 infection developed dyspnea, cough, and fatigue...

Clinical characteristics of novel coronavirus cases in tertiary hospitals in Hubei Province.
CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients with 2019-nCoV coronavirus pneumonia present with fever as the first symptom, and most of them still showed typical manifestations of viral pneumonia on chest imaging. Middle-aged and elderly patients with underlying comorbidities are susceptible to respiratory failure and may have a poorer prognosis. PMID: 32044814 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Corticosteroid treatment of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
CONCLUSIONS: Corticosteroids are widely used when treating patients with COVID-19, but we found no association between therapy and outcomes in patients without acute respiratory distress syndrome. An existing HBV infection may delay SARS-CoV-2 clearance, and this association should be further investigated. PMID: 32266987 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

2019 novel coronavirus: an emerging global threat.
Abstract The coronavirus (CoV) epidemic that began in China in December 2019 follows earlier epidemics of severe acute respiratory syndrome CoV in China and Middle East respiratory syndrome CoV in Saudi Arabia. The full genome of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has now been shared, and data have been gathered from several case series. As of February 11, 2020, there have been 45,182 laboratory-confirmed cases, the vast majority in China, with 1115 deaths, for an overall case-fatality rate of 2.5%. Cases have been confirmed in 27 countries. On average, each patient infects 2.2 other people. Symptomatic infect...
