Pediatric tertiary emergency care departments in Zagreb, Rijeka, and Split before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic: a Croatian national multicenter study
CONCLUSION: A significant reduction in the number of pediatric emergency department visits and hospital admissions is indirectly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the reduction was due to a decreased number of infectious disease cases. However, the number of visits requiring urgent medical intervention did not change.PMID:34981690

J Biol Inorg Chem. 2022 Oct 11. doi: 10.1007/s00775-022-01967-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe in vitro antimicrobial activity of Fe(III) and Ga(III) complexes with N'-(2,3-dihydroxy-phenylmethylidene)-3-pyridinecarbohydrazide (H2L1), N'-(2,4-dihydroxy-phenyl-methylidene)-3-pyridinecarbohydrazide (H2L2), N'-(2,5-dihydroxy-phenylmethylidene)-3-pyridinecarbohydrazide (H2L3), N'-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl-methylidene)-3-pyridine-carbohydrazide (H2L4), N'-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenylmethyl-idene)-3-pyridine-carbohydrazide (H2L5), and N'-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenylmethylidene)-3-pyridinecarbo-hydrazide (H2L6) toward several Gr...

Medical Emergencies in Pulmonary Hypertension
Semin Respir Crit Care Med. 2023 Aug 18. doi: 10.1055/s-0043-1770120. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe management of acute medical emergencies in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) can be challenging. Patients with preexisting PH can rapidly deteriorate due to right ventricular decompensation when faced with acute physiological challenges that would usually be considered low-risk scenarios. This review considers the assessment and management of acute medical emergencies in patients with PH, encompassing both pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), acknowledgi...

Regional antimicrobial stewardship program in a provincial medical zone in Japan: A multifaceted approach
Jpn J Infect Dis. 2021 Dec 28. doi: 10.7883/yoken.JJID.2021.577. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a threat to patient health. However, there is a lack of data for optimizing antimicrobial use. Furthermore, reducing antibiotic use raises concerns regarding patient safety; there is controversy regarding its effectiveness in reducing AMR prevalence. Researchers at the Japanese Red Cross Ishinomaki Hospital (JRCIH), the only tertiary care hospital in the medical zone, along with local medical and pharmacy associations and public health centers, has been leading the AMR control program since 2018....
