Protective effects of exogenous melatonin therapy against oxidative stress to male reproductive tissue caused by anti-cancer chemical and radiation therapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis of animal studies
ConclusionIn male rodents, melatonin therapy was related to improved testicular histopathology, reproductive hormones, testis and body weights, and reduced levels of oxidative markers in testicular tissues of male rodents. Future meticulous studies are recommended to provide a robust scientific backbone for human applications.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42022355293, identifier CRD42022355293.

Significant pain decrease in children with non-systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis treated to target: results over 24 months of follow up
CONCLUSIONS: Treatment-to-target seems effective in pain-reduction in non-systemic JIA-patients irrespective of initial treatment-strategy. Several baseline-predictors for pain over time were found, which could help to identify patients with a high risk for development of chronic pain.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Dutch Trial Registry number 1574.PMID:37633893 | DOI:10.1186/s12969-023-00874-z

Oncogenic β-catenin-driven liver cancer is susceptible to methotrexate-mediated disruption of nucleotide synthesis
CONCLUSION: MTX is a promising chemotherapeutic agent for β-catenin hyperactive liver cancer. Since repurposing MTX has the advantages of lower risk, shorter timelines, and less investment in drug discovery and development, a clinical trial is warranted to test its efficacy in the treatment of β-catenin mutant liver cancer.PMID:37612257 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002816

Design, synthesis, anticancer and < em > in silico < /em > assessment of 8-piperazinyl caffeinyl-triazolylmethyl hybrid conjugates
RSC Adv. 2023 Aug 18;13(35):24656-24673. doi: 10.1039/d3ra04817a. eCollection 2023 Aug 11.ABSTRACTIn this paper, we have assessed the design, synthesis, characterization, anticancer properties, toxicity, and in silico study of 8-piperazinyl caffeinyl-triazolylmethyl derivatives as new caffeine hybrid conjugates. These compounds consist of four moieties comprising 8-caffeinyl, piperazinyl, 1,2,3-triazolyl, and alkyl substituents. The synthesis of these compounds was started by bromination of caffeine to attain 8-BC, SNAr reaction with piperazine to acquire 8-PC, N-propargylation of 8-PC and finally click Huisgen cycloadditi...

Antibody-mediated rejection with detection of de novo donor-specific anti-human leukocyte antigen Class II antibodies after lung transplantation: Problems in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring on a case report basis
We present the case of a 46-year-old patient who, two months after lung transplantation (LTx), developed AMR manifested by the deterioration of graft function and de novo production of donor-specific antibodies (DSA): DQ3 (DQ7, DQ8, DQ9). As the patient was after left single LTx and heavily oxygen dependent a transbronchial biopsy was deemed to be high risk and it was decided to determine the clinical significance of the detected antibodies by their ability to bind complement. The test confirmed that the detected DSAs have the ability cause cytotoxicity of the transplanted organ. After treatment with methotrexate, intraven...
