Trends and hotspots of acupuncture for allergic rhinitis: A bibliometric analysis from 2002 to 2022
CONCLUSION: acupuncture has experienced robust development for the treatment of allergic rhinitis over the last two decades, with rhinoconjunctivitis and clinical research being the anticipated trends and frontiers of future research.PMID:37696311 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2023.102984

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Chagas Disease in the United States: A Multicenter Retrospective Analysis
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Sep 11:tpmd230361. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0361. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChagas disease affects approximately 300,000 patients in the United States. We evaluated a multicenter U.S.-based network to obtain clinical characteristics and outcomes of chronic Chagas disease by disease forms. This was a U.S.-based, multicenter, population-based, retrospective cohort study. We queried TriNetX, a global research network, to identify patients with dual-positive IgG serology for Trypanosoma cruzi. We captured outcomes of interest for up to 5 years. We found 429 patients with evidence of dual-positive T. cr...

The Changing Landscape of Global Child Health Education in the United States and the Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Civil Unrest
Pediatr Ann. 2023 Sep;52(9):e324-e329. doi: 10.3928/19382359-20230720-02. Epub 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTThe events of recent years have affected the landscape of global child health education (GCHE) in the United States. War, racism, forced displacement, and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had global repercussions that reached US GCHE. The aim of this article is to examine the effect of these events on the landscape of GCHE in the US. Key areas of GCHE have been reframed, reshaped, and accelerated by these events. Travel restrictions accelerated virtual learning opportunities. Core curriculum needed to be recons...

Opioid and benzodiazepine misuse in the United States: The impact of socio-demographic characteristics
CONCLUSION AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: A large portion of US adults are misusing opioids, benzodiazepines, and both drugs. Specifically, bisexual individuals experience higher odds of opioid misuse, benzodiazepine misuse and misuse of both drugs compared with heterosexuals, while males are experiencing lower odds of benzodiazepine misuse compared with females. Individuals aged 26-49 experience the highest odds of opioid misuse, though misuse of both drugs was higher among the 18-25 age group. Findings underscore the use of targeted preventive measures to reduce misuse of these drugs among at-risk populations identified in...

Use of atmospheric concentrations and passive samplers to assess surface-atmosphere exchange of gaseous mercury in forests
Chemosphere. 2023 Sep 8:140113. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.140113. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDirect measurements of gaseous elemental mercury (GEM) exchanges over global ecosystems are challenging and require extensive and costly measurement systems. Here, we explore the use of atmospheric GEM concentration variability and passive samplers to assess underlying ecosystem GEM exchanges at two rural temperate forests in the northeastern United States. We find strong temporal alignments between atmospheric GEM concentration declines and ecosystem GEM deposition in spring at both forests, which followed patterns of CO2...

Auditing causality of the multiple-burden of malnutrition in India and South Africa: A critical need for directions
Public Health Nutr. 2023 Sep 11:1-7. doi: 10.1017/S1368980023001921. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDeveloping economies are shaped by the current predicament of urbanization and its impact on health is inevitable. In the post-pandemic times, India and South Africa witnessed a GDP growth rate of about 1.7% and 1.9% respectively, while the developed economies like Europe and the United States have bounced back with more than 2% GDP. The similarities and differences between India and South Africa provide potential candidates to study nutrition transition with the elements of urbanization. In both countries increased access to...
