For this edition of From the Pages of AllergyWatch, I've chosen articles from recent issues of AllergyWatch. The first article, with comments from Dr. Chipps, reports data showing a reduction in exacerbations and infections in asthma patients receiving allergen immunotherapy. The next article, with comments from Dr. Lee, also investigates allergen immunotherapy and improvements in atopic dermatitis. Fire Ant Immunotherapy with InteRvals Extended to 12-weekS: The FIRES Study
CONCLUSION: This prospective longitudinal cohort study shows that in adults >18 years old who have received at least 3 months of maintenance dose IFA WBE immunotherapy with proven efficacy, extension to a 12-week EMI is a safe effective treatment option. Factors associated with allergic rhinitis and combined allergic rhinitis and asthma syndrome (CARAS) in adults undergoing immunotherapy in a tropical country: Is ISAAC-III questionnaire useful in adult populations?
CONCLUSION: The main factor associated with AR was regular acetaminophen use, while that associated with CARAS was cesarean delivery.
