Integrated Allergy and Asthma Prevention and Care: Report of the MeDALL/AIRWAYS ICPs Meeting at the Ministry of Health and Care Services, Oslo, Norway
Allergic diseases and asthma are increasing in prevalence globally. They can start early in life and many persist. It is important to prevent, detect and control these diseases early on and throughout life, so as to promote active and healthy ageing. The translational activities of MeDALL (Mechanisms of the Development of Allergy; EU FP7) are of great importance and include the deployment of successful allergy programmes. The Finnish Allergy Plan is a prototype for the prevention and control of severe allergic diseases. It has been considered for deployment to Norway by the Ministry of Health and Care Services in the frame...

Allergic rhinits: impact on quality of life of adolescents.
Authors: Rosario CS, Murrieta-Aguttes M, Rosario NA Abstract Summary: Adolescence is one of the most rapid phases of human development, in which biological maturity precedes psychosocial maturity. Rhinoconjunctivitis (ARC) is present in around 15 percent of 13-14-year-old children, which indicates a higher prevalence when compared with 6-7-year-old children (8.5 percent). During childhood (0-10 years) prevalence of Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is higher among males compared to females. Quite the reverse, during adolescence (11-17 years) females display higher prevalence of AR compared to males. However, when they reach a...

Mapping Food Allergy Data to a Standard Data Model
Food Allergy (FA) research and treatment would greatly benefit from enhanced sharing data across institutions. Over the last few years the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM) has become the most widely adopted standard for storage and sharing of medical data. To support the creation of a FA data commons, an OMOP compliant data model was created.

Action Plan to Reach the Global Availability of Adrenaline Auto-Injectors.
Abstract Adrenaline is the first-line treatment for anaphylaxis and, therefore, listed as an essential medication for the treatment of anaphylaxis by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, the availability of auto-injector (AAI) forms for use in the first-aid treatment is limited to only 32% of all 195-world countries, mostly high-income countries. The key issues leading to the lack of availability of AAIs include cost but also national regulations, lack of regional evidence about the value of epinephrine and the limited accurate data about the epidemiology of anaphylaxis. For these reasons, regional and in...

It considered (1) the political background, (2) the rationale for allergen immunotherapy across the life cycle, (3) the unm...

There's an allergy epidemic in Africa, and not enough specialists to deal with it
(Elsevier) Allergies are on the rise in Africa, but with too few specialists to treat them, and a parallel increase in immune deficiency diseases, the situation is worse than we thought. According to researchers from Ain Shams University in Egypt in an article in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the answer is more funding, motivated governments and better scientific partnerships.
