Outcomes and factors associated with tolerance in infants with non-IgE-mediated cow's milk allergy with gastrointestinal manifestations
CONCLUSIONS: In infants with non-IgE-mediated CMPA with gastrointestinal manifestations, the use of cow's milk-based formula, a history of other food allergies, and hematochezia and diarrhea upon initial presentation were associated factors for the later achievement of tolerance.PMID:37696495 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2023.08.003

Data Extraction and Handling Issues on Evidence Synthesis of Risk of Immunoglobulin E –Mediated Food Allergy—Reply
In Reply We are grateful to Xiao et al for raising some methodological issues about our recent systematic review and meta-analysis. Four separate issues are raised. The first is the definition of immunoglobulin E (IgE) –mediated food allergy. The authors are correct that sensitization is often used as part of an assessment of IgE-mediated food allergy. In the included randomized clinical trials, this was also generally the case (eTable 1). Thus, our assessment of the outcome food allergy was indeed IgE-mediated food allergy. We did not extract data for non-IgE mediated food allergies, and we included a separate secondary...

A Review of Histamine-2 Receptor Antagonist and Proton Pump Inhibitor Therapy for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Neonates and Infants
Paediatr Drugs. 2023 Jul 17. doi: 10.1007/s40272-023-00580-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProton pump inhibitors (PPI) and histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RA) are commonly used medications in neonates and infants for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), especially in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). A literature review was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs) and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) in preterm neonates, term neonates, and infants. A total of 27 studies were included in this review. Antacid medications in studies have consistently...

The role of the atopy patch test in the diagnostic work-up of non-IgE gastrointestinal food allergy in children: a systematic review
Conclusion:  APT is effective in identifying causative food in children with food-induced motility disorders. What is Known:• Atopy patch test could be a useful diagnostic test for diagnosing food allergy, especially in children with food allergy-related gastrointestinal symptoms. What is New:• Atopy patch test may be a useful tool in diagnosing non IgE food allergy, especially in children with food-induced gastrointestinal motility disorders and cow's milk allergy.

Atoms
‘Take 5’ The camera swings smoothly from the penumbral apartment view to a vertiginous angle above the staircase. The sole source of illumination a swaying, flickering lightbulb too intermittent to allow you to determine whether the silhouette near the cellar door is real or... the ostentatious Hitchcockian flourish serving only to cast more doubt cast on what your senses are telling you. "Cut" calls the voice from the director’s chair, face hidden by a diametrically challenged trilby "no one will guess which of the protagonists is which". A rash of misunderstanding It’s late at night, you’ve ...

Association between maternal gestational diabetes and allergic diseases in offspring: a birth cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Maternal GDM was adversely associated with early-life allergic diseases, especially eczema. We were the first to identify OGTT-2 h glucose to be more sensitive in inducing allergy risk and that dietary PUFAs might modify the associations.PMID:37029331 | DOI:10.1007/s12519-023-00710-0
