Data Extraction and Handling Issues on Evidence Synthesis of Risk of Immunoglobulin E –Mediated Food Allergy—Reply

In Reply We are grateful to Xiao et al for raising some methodological issues about our recent systematic review and meta-analysis. Four separate issues are raised. The first is the definition of immunoglobulin E (IgE) –mediated food allergy. The authors are correct that sensitization is often used as part of an assessment of IgE-mediated food allergy. In the included randomized clinical trials, this was also generally the case (eTable 1). Thus, our assessment of the outcome food allergy was indeed IgE-mediated food allergy. We did not extract data for non-IgE mediated food allergies, and we included a separate secondary outcome—allergic sensitization to food (eFigure 3).
