Gene of the month: GATA3
J Clin Pathol. 2023 Sep 19:jcp-2023-209017. doi: 10.1136/jcp-2023-209017. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGATA binding protein 3 (GATA3) is a zinc-finger pioneer transcription factor involved in diverse processes. GATA3 regulates gene expression through binding nucleosomal DNA and facilitating chromatin remodelling. Post-translational modifications modulate its activity. During development, GATA3 plays a key role in cell differentiation. Mutations in GATA3 are linked to breast and bladder cancer. GATA3 expression is a feature of the luminal subtype of bladder cancer and has implications for immune status and therapeutic resp...

Prevalence of Fascioliasis in Slaughtered Cattle in A ğrı Province
CONCLUSION: In this study conducted on cattle in the Ağrı region, F. hepatica was found to be significantly common. The data obtained show that in order to prevent economic losses in animal husbandry, which is an important source of livelihood of the local people, effective prevention and control programs should be planned and implemented, and both sheep and cattle breeders should be made aware of the prevention of this infection.PMID:37724364 | DOI:10.4274/tpd.galenos.2023.39306

The emerging functions of mini zinc finger (MIF) microproteins in seed plants: A minireview
Biochimie. 2023 Sep 16:S0300-9084(23)00243-2. doi: 10.1016/j.biochi.2023.09.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMini zinc fingers constitute a class of microproteins that appeared early in evolution and expanded in seeds plants. In this review, the phylogenetic history, the functions and the mode of action of MIFs in plants are reported and discussed. It appears that mini zinc finger microproteins play an important role in the control of plant development. They are involved in the control of cell division and expansion and in the switch between the determinate/indeterminate state of the meristems. They are involved in the r...

Fe-NPs and Zn-NPs: Advancing Aquaculture Performance Through Nanotechnology
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03850-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAquaculture is a growing industry facing several challenges, including disease control, water quality management, and sustainable feed production. One potential solution to these challenges is the use of trace elements such as iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn), either in their conventional form or as nanoparticles (NPs). Aquatic animals need these micronutrients for normal growth, physiological processes, and overall health. In marine species, iron boosts development, immunity, and disease resistance. At the same time, zinc enhances meta...

Correlation of Dietary Macro- and Micro-Mineral Intake with Seminal Plasma Quality/Quantity and Oxidant/Antioxidant Status in Infertile Compared to the Normal Men: a Case-Control Study
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03834-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMale infertility is a global public health issue, but studies on the correlation between the dietary components and sperm quality showed inconclusive results due to the heterogeneous population with different dietary habits and environmental stimuli. Herein, the correlation of dietary macro- and micro-mineral intake was evaluated with quality/quantity and oxidant/antioxidant status of seminal fluid in infertile compared to the healthy men. One hundred twenty men attending to the infertility clinic of Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital ...

Versatile nicotinamide enabling dendrite-free and efficient deposition for aqueous Zn-I < sub > 2 < /sub > batteries
This study introduces a versatile electrolyte additive, nicotinamide, for zinc anodes, aiming to facilitate uniform deposition and suppress water-induced side reactions. The molecular structure, consisting of a pyridine ring and an amide function group, endows NTA molecules with the ability to regulate electrolyte pH, enhance nucleation overpotential, and constrain 2D diffusion of Zn2+. As a result, the full battery configuration with this additive achieved an impressive lifespan of over 10 000 cycles.PMID:37718631 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc03420h
