Impact of influenza, herpes zoster, and pneumococcal vaccinations on the incidence of cardiovascular events in subjects aged over 65 years: a systematic review
AbstractThis systematic review aims to summarize the impact of vaccination against influenza, shingles, and pneumococcus on the incidence on the risk of cardiovascular events in the elderly. This protocol was developed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. We conducted a literature search and identified all relevant articles published regarding the matter up to September 2022. We retrieved 38 studies (influenza vaccine = 33, pneumococcal vaccine = 5, and zoster vaccine = 2). Did the change of the vaccination schedule effect pneumococcal conjugate vaccination compliance and adherence of premature and mature born infants in Germany? Answers from a claims database analysis
CONCLUSION: There is no proven evidence that the reduced PCV schedule for mature infants induced a higher acceptance of vaccination. The rate of unvaccinated infants remained at a considerable level and vaccinations were often delayed. Although the STIKO still recommends a 3+1 PCV schedule for premature infants in Germany, less than half of children showed a completed vaccination series. Meningitis Risk and Role of Prophylactic Antibiotics in Spontaneous Lateral Skull Base CSF Leaks
CONCLUSIONS: There appears to be a low risk of meningitis among patients with lateral skull base sCSF leaks awaiting surgery for short durations (≤2 months), even in the absence of prophylactic antibiotics. There is a substantial gap in the published literature assessing the risk of meningitis and roles of antibiotics and vaccination in this patient population, indicating the need for large-scale study to conclusively elucidate the nature of this risk.PMID:37246394 | DOI:10.1177/00034894231177756

Challenges in the Vaccination of the Elderly and Strategies for Improvement
This article reviews published papers on several vaccination strategies that were developed for the elderly to solve these problems: more immunogenic vaccine formulations using larger doses of antigen, stronger vaccine adjuvants, recombinant subunit or protein conjugated vaccines, newly developed mRNA vaccines, giving booster shots, and exploring alternative routes of administration. Included also are several publications on senolytic medications under investigation to boost the immune system and vaccine response in the elderly.
