Challenges in the Vaccination of the Elderly and Strategies for Improvement
This article reviews published papers on several vaccination strategies that were developed for the elderly to solve these problems: more immunogenic vaccine formulations using larger doses of antigen, stronger vaccine adjuvants, recombinant subunit or protein conjugated vaccines, newly developed mRNA vaccines, giving booster shots, and exploring alternative routes of administration. Included also are several publications on senolytic medications under investigation to boost the immune system and vaccine response in the elderly. With all those in regard, the currently recommended vaccines for the elderly are presented.PMID...

Cardiorespiratory Adverse Events after First Vaccination in Preterm Neonates With Gestational Age & lt;30 Weeks
CONCLUSION: Adverse cardiorespiratory events were uncommon after first vaccinations in very preterm neonates. Administering vaccines to these before discharge would allow monitoring for these events, especially for those who require long-term respiratory support.PMID:37211893

Influences of sociodemographic characteristics and parental HPV vaccination hesitancy on HPV vaccination coverage in five US states
CONCLUSIONS: Adolescent HPV vaccination coverage remains low in our targeted states. Children's age, sex, and parental vaccine hesitancy were significantly associated with likelihood of HPV vaccination. These findings offer the opportunity for targeted interventions among parents in regions with low vaccine uptake and underscore the importance of developing and implementing strategies to address parental HPV vaccination hesitancy to improve uptake in the US.PMID:37198022 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.04.082

Meningococcal ACWY conjugate vaccine immunogenicity and safety in adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease: A prospective observational cohort study
CONCLUSION: The MenACWY conjugate vaccine was immunogenic in the vast majority of JIA and IBD patients at adolescent age, but seroprotection was lower in patients using anti-TNF agents. Therefore, an extra booster MenACWY vaccination should be considered.PMID:37198018 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.04.056

Leisure-time physical activity and mortality from influenza and pneumonia: a cohort study of 577 909 US adults
CONCLUSIONS: Aerobic physical activity, even at quantities below the recommended level, may be associated with lower influenza and pneumonia mortality while muscle-strengthening activity demonstrated a J-shaped relationship.PMID:37192831 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2022-106644

Pneumococcal vaccination coverage at the initiation of chronic dialysis, and its association with mortality during the first year
CONCLUSIONS: Pneumococcal immunization with PCV13 followed by PPSV23, or with PCV13 alone, but not with PPSV23 alone, is independently associated with decreased one year-mortality in patients who start dialysis.PMID:37179164 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.05.003
