Lymph Node Metastases and Associated Recurrence-Free Survival in Microsatellite Stable and Unstable Colon Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: In MSI colon cancer, LNMs are 50 % less prevalent, but the factors associated with LNM are like those in MSS colon cancer. The improved prognosis traditionally associated with early-stage MSI colon cancers dissipates with four or more LNMs. These findings should be taken into consideration by clinicians selecting the most appropriate course of treatment for MSI colon cancer.PMID:37700171 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14270-0

Are 7.5gy ×2 fractions more efficient than 6gy×3 in exclusive postoperative endometrial cancer brachytherapy? a clinical and dosimetrical analysis
CONCLUSION: Considering the lack of vaginal relapses and similar LVT over time, 7.5Gy×2fractions seem more efficient in terms of patient comfort, workload, and cost. This is the first study using dosimetry parameters to compare effectivity of schedules. Larger series are needed to confirm the present results.PMID:37699447 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109909

The Influence of the Preoperative Albumin to Alkaline Phosphatase Ratio on Overall Survival in Post-Radical Surgery for Colorectal Cancer and the Construction of a Nomogram Prediction Model
CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative AAPR level was a good predictor of postoperative survival in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical CRC surgery, and AAPR <.495 was an independent risk factor for decreased postoperative OS.PMID:37698898 | DOI:10.1177/00031348231200674

A novel cuproptosis-related gene prognostic signature in colon adenocarcinoma
This study plans to establish a survival prognosis model for colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) patients based on cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs). We investigated the genetic alterations of CRGs in COAD based on The Cancer Genome Atlas database and validated in the GSE41328 dataset. Our results showed that LIPT1, PDHA1, GLS, and CDKN2A had significantly higher expression in COAD tissues than in normal tissues, while FDX1, DLD, and MTF1 had significantly lower expression in COAD tissues than in normal tissues (|(log2(fold change))| > 2, p < 0.05). DLD (hazard ratio (HR): 0.658; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.445, 0.974; p ...

Utility of psychotherapy assessed with Kessler scale in a population of cancer patients undergoing systemic oncological treatment: a mono-institutional experience
CONCLUSIONS: The use of the K10 test is helpful in monitoring the degree of psychological distress of patients facing the diagnosis of cancer and who are about to start oncological treatment. Psychotherapy is effective in reducing the distress of these patients just a few months after starting treatment.PMID:37699600 | DOI:10.21037/cco-23-54

Predicting Trifluridine/Tipiracil Treatment Outcomes in Refractory Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Patients: A Multicenter Exploratory Analysis
CONCLUSION: With regard to the results of the previously conducted trials, the study concludes that indolent disease, good general condition, and absence of liver metastases are positive predictive factors for TTP treatment.PMID:37699377 | DOI:10.1159/000533567

Impact of oophorectomy on survival and improving nutritional status in ovarian metastasis from colorectal adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Oophorectomy for ovarian metastasis from colorectal cancers was safely performed. It improved the patients' symptoms and nutritional status and may result in improved prognosis.PMID:37699374 | DOI:10.1159/000533599

Survival outcome in early onset metastatic colorectal cancer: a multicenter matched-pair analysis
Conclusion Our study suggests that younger patients benefit at least to the same magnitude or even more from mCRC-treatment than patients aged 50 or above.PMID:37699362 | DOI:10.1159/000533429

Accounting for intensity variation in image analysis of large-scale multiplexed clinical trial datasets
This study reports an analytical approach to the largest multi-parameter immunoprofiling study of clinical trial samples to date. We analysed 12,592 tissue microarray (TMA) spots from 3,545 colorectal cancers sourced from more than 240 institutions in two clinical trials (QUASAR 2 and SCOT) stained for CD4, CD8, CD20, CD68, FoxP3, pan-cytokeratin, and DAPI by mIF. TMA slides were multi-spectrally imaged and analysed by cell-based and pixel-based marker analysis. We developed an adaptive thresholding method to account for inter- and intra-slide intensity variation in TMA analysis. Applying this method effectively ameliorate...

Unlocking the potential of targeting histone-modifying enzymes for treating IBD and CRC
Clin Epigenetics. 2023 Sep 11;15(1):146. doi: 10.1186/s13148-023-01562-1.ABSTRACTDysregulation of histone modifications has been implicated in the pathogenesis of both inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC). These diseases are characterized by chronic inflammation, and alterations in histone modifications have been linked to their development and progression. Furthermore, the gut microbiota plays a crucial role in regulating immune responses and maintaining gut homeostasis, and it has been shown to exert effects on histone modifications and gene expression in host cells. Recent advances in our underst...

Modulation of mitochondrial apoptosis by β2-adrenergic receptor blockage in colorectal cancer after radiotherapy: an < em > in-vivo < /em > and < em > in-vitro < /em > study
Am J Cancer Res. 2023 Aug 15;13(8):3741-3752. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTColorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of malignancy-related deaths worldwide. Radiotherapy is often combined with surgery to treat patients with more advanced CRC. Despite impressive initial clinical responses, radiotherapy resistance is the main reason for most treatment failures in colorectal cancer. The G protein-coupled adrenergic receptor (AR) has shown to involve in the development and radiotherapy resistance of CRC. The β2-AR blockage (ICI-118,551) can use to inhibit the progression of CRC through downregulating EGFR-Akt-ERK1/2 si...

Colorectal cancer cell-secreted exosomal miRNA N-72 promotes tumor angiogenesis by targeting CLDN18
Am J Cancer Res. 2023 Aug 15;13(8):3482-3499. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAngiogenesis is essential for the growth and metastasis of several malignant tumors including colorectal cancer (CRC). The molecular mechanism underlying CRC angiogenesis has not been fully elucidated. Emerging evidence indicates that secreted microRNAs (miRNAs) may mediate the intercellular communication between tumor cells and neighboring endothelial cells to regulate tumor angiogenesis. In addition, exosomes have been shown to carry and deliver miRNAs to regulate angiogenesis. miRNA N-72 is a novel miRNA that plays a regulatory role in the EGF-induce...
