Ileus induced by the combination of vinca alkaloids and posaconazole in a patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a case report and literature review
J Int Med Res. 2023 Aug;51(8):3000605231193823. doi: 10.1177/03000605231193823.ABSTRACTVinca alkaloid (VA)-induced ileus, a rare but severe autonomic neuropathy, can be enhanced by concomitant use of antifungal triazole agents. We herein present a case of VA-induced ileus in a 17-year-old girl who was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. On day 1, the patient received cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and methylprednisolone. On day 2, she began treatment with posaconazole oral suspension at 200 mg three times daily for prophylaxis against invasive fungal infection. On day 5, she began induction therapy consisti...

Nature Photographs as Complementary Care in Chemotherapy: A Randomized Clinical Trial
This study aims to investigate the outcome of nature images on clinical symptom management related to chemotherapy.METHODS: A randomized clinical trial was conducted in an outpatient cancer unit of a private hospital in Brazil, with 173 participants over the age of 18 who were undergoing chemotherapy and had signed an informed consent form. The intervention consisted of the presentation of a 12-min video featuring nature images categorized under the themes of Tranquility, Beauty, Emotions Up, or Miscellany. Images were sourced from the e-Nature Positive Emotions Photography Database (e-NatPOEM), a publicly available collec...

Metastatic and Malignant Phyllodes Tumors of the Breast: An Update for Current Management
Am Surg. 2023 Aug 23:31348231198114. doi: 10.1177/00031348231198114. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetastatic, malignant phyllodes tumor (PT) of the breast is a rare and aggressive neoplasm. Currently, there is no agreed upon consensus as to best management practices. A systematic review of literature was conducted investigating surgical, chemotherapeutic, and radiotherapeutic management for metastatic PT. Databases employed to identify articles included Embase, PubMed, and SAGE Journals. Diagnosis of metastatic PT has been of significant difficulty to radiologists as it is often confused with fibroadenomas. Surgically, me...

A Case of Locally Advanced, Unresectable Pancreatic Cancer with Superior Mesenteric Artery Invasion Treated with FOLFIRINOX plus Radiation Therapy, followed by Conversion Surgery
We report a case of a woman in her 70s who underwent conversion surgery after FOLFIRINOX, followed by radiation therapy for initially locally advanced unresectable pancreatic cancer. She visited her local doctor with a chief complaint of upper abdominal pain. Contrast-enhanced CT scan of the abdomen revealed an irregular mass invading the superior mesenteric artery, and the first and second jejunal arteries(>180°)in the pancreatic uncinate region. Based on imaging, she was diagnosed as UR-LA(sm), cT4N0M0, cStage Ⅲ pancreatic cancer, and underwent 5 courses of modified FOLFIRINOX. Radiation therapy of 50.4 Gy was adde...

Pt not interested in SCS, worried about sedation. Lives alone and also given age, I've tried to hold off on TCAs...but I may need to go that route as pain is worsening. What else can I offer? LESI??

Emergencies in cancer immunotherapy
CONCLUSIONS: Even emergencies are manageable if we know the most important side effects and the therapeutic options. Immune-mediated side effects are of particular importance because they can affect any organ system. However, as long as we consider the possibility of toxicity from checkpoint inhibitors when the patient presents with symptoms, most side effects are easy to treat and therefore manageable.PMID:37607581 | DOI:10.1055/a-2128-4849

Case Report: Etoposide-nedaplatin induced rhabdomyolysis in a small cell lung cancer patient
Rhabdomyolysis syndrome refers to the breakdown and necrosis of muscle tissue due to various reasons and caused by the release of intracellular contents into the blood stream, which can lead to acute renal failure or even death. In this article, we describe for the first time a case report of severe rhabdomyolysis induced by etoposide-nedaplatin chemotherapy in a small cell lung cancer (SCLC IIIb) patient. The patient developed progressive general muscle pain and weakness after the first cycle of chemotherapy, accompanied by elevated creatine kinase (CK), myoglobin (Mb), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), spartate aminotransf...

Malignant rhabdoid tumor of the omentum in an adult male: a case report and literature review
Malignant rhabdoid tumors (MRTs) are rare tumors with high mortality rates and poor prognoses. MRTs occur mainly in the central nervous system, kidneys, and soft tissues, but rarely in the omentum. MRTs occur more commonly in infants and children and less frequently in adults. Here, we report the first observed case of MRT in an adult omentum. A 35-year-old man with abdominal distension and pain was admitted to the emergency department. Previously, several hospitals considered patients with cirrhosis who had not received active treatment. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed diffuse omental thickenin...

POU2F1/DNMT3a Pathway Participates in Neuropathic Pain by Hypermethylation-Mediated LRFN4 Downregulation Following Oxaliplatin Treatment
Neurochem Res. 2023 Aug 18. doi: 10.1007/s11064-023-04011-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEvidence demonstrates that DNA methylation is associated with the occurrence and development of various neurological diseases. However, the potential target genes undergoing DNA methylation, as well as their involvement in the chemotherapy drug oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic pain, are still unclear. Here, Lrfn4, which showed hypermethylation in the promoter regions, was screened from the SRA methylation database (PRJNA587622) following oxaliplatin treatment. MeDIP and qPCR assays identified that oxaliplatin treatment increased the m...
