APA Responds to DEA ’s Proposed Rules Regarding Telehealth, Buprenorphine
Today APA filed two letters with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in response to two proposed rules that if finalized would affect how health professionals implement telehealth services and prescribe certain controlled medications. The proposed rules, which were developed with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and in close coordination with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs andannounced on February 24, would extend certain flexibilities in these areas after the COVID-19 public health emergency expires on May 11. Yet in several ways the proposed rules are more restrictive than what the pub...

Prevalence and correlates of street-obtained buprenorphine use among current and former injectors in Baltimore, Maryland.
CONCLUSIONS: While 9% reported recent street-obtained buprenorphine use, only a small minority reported using buprenorphine to get high, with the majority reporting use to manage withdrawal symptoms. There is limited evidence of diversion of buprenorphine in this sample and efforts to expand buprenorphine treatment should continue with further monitoring. Viruses, Vol. 13, Pages 1472: Buprenorphine Increases HIV-1 Infection In Vitro but Does Not Reactivate HIV-1 from Latency
Conclusions: our results suggest that buprenorphine, in contrast to morphine or methadone, increases the in vitro susceptibility of leukocytes to HIV-1 infection but has no effect on in vitro HIV reactivation. These findings contribute to our understanding how opioids, including those used for MAT, affect HIV infection and reactivation, and can help to inform the choice of MAT for people living with HIV or who are at risk of HIV infection.

Concomitant use of benzodiazepine and alcohol in methadone‐maintained patients from the ANRS–Methaville trial: Preventing the risk of opioid overdose in patients who failed with buprenorphine
ConclusionsAs well as the importance of identifying socially vulnerable and depressed methadone‐maintained patients, clinicians should be aware that patients who fail buprenorphine treatment and switch to methadone require greater clinical monitoring and management to avoid the risk of overdose. Buprenorphine/naloxone treatment practices in Malaysia: Results of national surveys of physicians and patients
The high prevalence of interrelated problems with opioid use disorder, injection drug use (IDU), and HIV/AIDS in Malaysia has led to the scale-up of public health approaches, including opioid agonist maintenance treatment with buprenorphine or methadone. Malaysia has more than 300,000 registered people who use drugs (PWUD)-approximately 1.1% of its population of about 30 million-and an estimated 170,000 people who inject drugs (PWID; Nazar and Ahlam, 2007; Global AIDS Response, 2012), with heroin continuing to be the drug most frequently injected.

Internet Search Patterns of Human Immunodeficiency Virus and the Digital Divide in the Russian Federation: Infoveillance Study
Conclusions: This study contributes to the methodological literature on search patterns in public health. Based on our preliminary research, we suggest that PCA may be used to evaluate the relationship between the determinants of Internet access and searches for health problems beyond high-income countries. We believe it is in middle-income countries that search methods can make the greatest contribution to public health.

Application of viewshed analysis and probability mapping for search area determination based on the Moors murders on Saddleworth Moor, the United Kingdom
This study aims to investigate how useful GIS can be to narrow down large search areas when locating clandestine graves. Combining GIS, viewshed analysis, and probability maps allows for the exploration of potential areas of concealment and diggability on Saddleworth Moor to find the remaining missing Moors victim, Keith Bennett. Methods included viewshed analysis consisting of what is visible and not visible from a certain location while the probability map registers the likelihood of penetrability across the Moors landscape. Using two GIS software programs, QGIS and ArcGIS Pro, maps were constructed examining the A635 on...

The Effect of Patient Narratives on Information Search in a Web-Based Breast Cancer Decision Aid: An Eye-Tracking Study
Conclusions: The observed increase in fixation duration with video patient testimonials is consistent with the idea that the vividness of the video content could cause greater elaboration of the message, thereby encouraging greater information search. Conversely, because reading requires more effortful processing than watching, reading patient narratives may have decreased participant motivation to engage in more reading in the remaining sections of the Web decision aid. These findings suggest that the format of patient stories may be equally as important as their content in determining their effect on decision making. Mor...

UCLA researchers use search engines, social media to predict syphilis trends
UCLA-led research finds that internet search terms and tweets related to sexual risk behaviors can predict when and where syphilis trends will occur. Two studies from the UCLA-based University of California Institute for Prediction Technology, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, found an association between certain risk-related terms that Google and Twitter users researched or tweeted about and subsequent syphilis trends that were reported to the CDC. The researchers were able to pinpoint these cases at state or county levels, depending on the platform used.“Many of the most signi...

Homosexual desire after AIDS: an analysis of the criteria adopted by men in the search for same sex partners
This article analyzes changes and continuities in partner search criteria by homosexual men considering the impact of the HIV-AIDS epidemic in the city of S ão Paulo, Brazil. Thus, it compares two different historical moments: between 1979 and 1981 (pre-epidemic) and 2015 to 2017 (post-epidemic). In the first period, the source incorporated 120 classified ads collected from the Lampião da Esquina newspaper and in the second period, the preferences and criteria used to search for partners were analyzed using geolocalized applications, based on 120 online profiles. The data show that that between 1979-1981 the search for ...

3D-QSAR and docking studies of HIV-1 protease inhibitors using R-group search and Surflex-dock
AbstractIn this paper, a three-dimensional quantitative structure –activity relationships study for 38 HIV-1 protease inhibitors was established using Topomer CoMFA. The multiple correlation coefficients of fitting, cross-validation, and external validation were 0.959, 0.867, and 0.964, respectively. The results indicated that the model obtained has both favorab le estimation stability and good prediction capability. Topomer Search was used to search R-group from ZINC database. As the result, a series of R-groups with relatively high activity contribution was obtained. By No. 32 molecule filtering, 10 Ra and 6 Rb groups ...
