Conclusions Implanted Hair Follicle Cells Produce Remodeling of Scar Tissue Assessment of Somatic Mosaicism as a Biomarker of Aging The Gut Microbiome of Centenarians https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2023/01/the-gut-microbiome-of-centenarians/ The state of the gut microbiome is arguably as influential on health as exercise. Various microbial species present in the gut produce beneficial metabolites, such as butyrate, or harmful metabolites, such as isoamylamine, or can provoke chronic inflammation in a variety of ways. An individual can have a better or worse microbiome, assessing these and other fu...

Approach to the Patient: Pharmacological therapies for fracture risk reduction in adults with osteogenesis imperfecta
CONCLUSION: Fracture rates are elevated in adults with OI. Although clinical trial data are limited, bisphosphonates and teriparatide may be useful in improving BMD. Further research is needed to develop medications for adults with OI that will lead to definite fracture rate reduction.PMID:36658750 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad035

Ormeloxifene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator, protects against pulmonary hypertension
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that ormeloxifene promoted pulmonary 17β-estradiol synthesis, alleviated inflammation, improved the NOX4/HO1/Nrf/PPARγ/PGC-1α axis, and attenuated pulmonary hypertension. It is evidently safe at tested concentrations and may be effectively repurposed for pulmonary hypertension treatment.PMID:36731722 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175558

In conclusion, here, we demonstrate a novel mechanism for ESC-EVs to protect cells from senescence. However, whether ESC-EVs rejuvenate aged mice via miR-15b-5p and miR-290a-5p remains unknown. Next, we plan to use miR-15b-5p and miR-290a-5p antagonists while treating aged mice with ESC-EVs to further investigate the mechanism by which ESC-EVs resist aging in vivo. « Back to Top Fatty Acid Metabolism as a Commonality in Different Approaches to Slowing Aging https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2023/08/fatty-acid-metabolism-as-a-commonality-in-different-approaches-to-slowing-aging/ It seems...

Estrogen induce VEGF expression in dermal papilla cells
It is required to reveal the mechanisms of female pattern hair loss (FPHL) augmenting in Japanese women with age. Estrogen could have a pivotal role on the hair cycle control, because anagen extends during pregnancy. Estrogen levels in blood considerably drop in women who are in ages suffering FPHL. Therefore, we analyzed expressions of several genes associated with hair cycles using real time RT-PCR in human follicular dermal papilla cells (DPCs) after treatment with a various extent of estradiol. The cells were culture with serum-free medium without phenol red. We found that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expr...

Disorder of sexual development in a Yorkshire terrier (78, XY; SRY-positive).
Abstract A 9-month-old Yorkshire terrier was admitted to the clinic because of abnormal sexual behaviour and clitoral hypertrophy. External examination confirmed standard development of caudal genital organs: vagina, vulva and cervix uteri. Serum profile of gonadotropin hormones 17 β-estradiol (<10.0 pg.ml(-1)) and testosterone (9.1 ng.ml(-1)) revealed the presence of testicular tissue. A midline laparotomy was performed to detect the cranial parts of the genital system. Gonads resembling testicles, structures indicating epididymis and rudimentary deferent ducts were resected, along with adherent part of the...

Effect of missed combined hormonal contraceptives on contraceptive effectiveness: a systematic review
Conclusion: Most of the studies in this evidence base relied on surrogate measures of pregnancy risk and ranged in quality. For studies providing indirect evidence on the effects of missed CHCs, it is unclear how differences in surrogate measures correspond to pregnancy risk. Fewer studies examined the transdermal patch and vaginal ring than combined oral contraceptives.
