Oxymatrine attenuates oxidized low ‑density lipoprotein‑induced HUVEC injury by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome‑mediated pyroptosis via the activation of the SIRT1/Nrf2 signaling pathway
Int J Mol Med. 2021 Oct;48(4):187. doi: 10.3892/ijmm.2021.5020. Epub 2021 Aug 9.ABSTRACTOxymatrine, a quinolizidine alkaloid isolated from the traditional Chinese herb Sophora flavescens Aiton, has been demonstrated to exert anti‑inflammatory and atherosclerotic effects, but the molecular mechanism has yet to be elucidated. Accumulating evidence indicates an important role of NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome‑mediated pyroptosis in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. The present study was undertaken to investigate whether oxymatrine attenuates oxidized low‑density lipoprotein (ox‑LDL)‑ind...

Minichromosome maintenance (MCM) protein 4 overexpression is a potential prognostic marker for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
CONCLUSIONS: We noticed a significant role for MCM4 overexpression in human LSCC tissues and their corresponding adjacent non-neoplastic tissues and found that siRNA of MCM4 can significantly decrease the proliferation of cancer cells. It is suggested that MCM4 profiling could potentially be used to predict response to treatment and prognosis in LSCC. PMID: 29135113 [PubMed - in process]

Anti-apoptosis Effect of Decoy Receptor 3 in Cholangiocarcinoma Cell Line TFK-1.
CONCLUSIONS: The effect of DcR3 on the growth and apoptosis of cholangiocarcinoma has been demonstrated. DcR3 is not only a predictive marker for malignant tumor but it is also likely to be a potential target for cancer gene therapy. Further studies should focus on exploring the binding ligand of DcR3, the signaling pathway involved, and the molecular mechanism for the regulation of DcR3 expression in cholangiocarcinoma. A Novel Regulator of Preadipocyte Differentiation, Transcription Factor TCF21, Functions Partially Through Promoting LPL Expression
Discussion Excessive fat deposition in chickens can result in many undesirable consequences within the poultry industry, including reduced feeding efficiency (Zhou et al., 2006) and decreased reproductive performance (Walzem and Chen, 2014). Thus, broiler breeders urgently require a more thorough understanding of the molecular mechanism governing chicken adipogenesis. We previously found that broilers from lean and fat lines exhibit clear differences in reproductive performance (Zhang et al., 2018). In addition, TCF21 was found to be related to testis growth and development in these broilers (Zhang et al., 2017). In mice ...

Adenine decreases hypertrophic effects through interleukin-18 receptor.
In this study, IL-18 induced cardiomyoblast hypertrophy through IL-18R upregulation, which was found to be related to p38 MAPK and PI3 kinase signaling. Adenine, but not AuNPs, showed antihypertrophic effects possibly because of decreased levels of signaling. PMID: 31535629 [PubMed - in process]

Preparation of poly(glutamic acid) shielding micelles self-assembled from polylysine-b-polyphenylalanine for gene and drug codelivery
Publication date: Available online 19 February 2020Source: Chinese Chemical LettersAuthor(s): Jing Ma, Jingpeng Zhang, Lin Chi, Chong Liu, Yanhui Li, Huayu TianABSTRACTA novel amphiphilic cationic block copolymer polylysine-b-polyphenylalanine (PLL-b-PPhe) was synthesized and self-assembled into micelles in aqueous solution, then shielded with poly(glutamic acid) (marked as PG/PLL-b-PPhe) to codeliver gene and drug for combination cancer therapy. Here, doxorubicin (DOX) was selected to be loaded into PLL-b-PPhe micelles and the drug loading efficiency was 8.0%. The drug release studies revealed that the PLL-b-PPhe micelles...

Electroacupuncture Pretreatment Prevents Ischemic Stroke and Inhibits Wnt Signaling-Mediated Autophagy Through the Regulation of GSK-3 β Phosphorylation.
In this study, rats were treated with EA prior to focal ischemia by middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Deficit score, infarct volumes and levels of autophagy markers, such as LC3I, LC3II and p62, were assessed with either PI3K inhibitor wortmannin or a GSK-3β inhibitor LiCl. Oxygen-glucose deprivation/re-oxygenation (OGD/R) was made in the primitive neuron in vitro, and was respectively treated with autophagy inhibitors 3-MA, LiCl, GSK3β siRNA, or mTOR inhibitor rapamycin. The results indicated that EA pretreatment increased the levels of autophagy marker LC3-II and reduced the levels of p62. Meanwhile, deficit out...

Tongxinluo attenuates oxygen-glucose-serum deprivation/restoration-induced endothelial barrier breakdown via peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-α/angiopoietin-like 4 pathway in high glucose-incubated human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells
Conclusion: These data suggest cell-intrinsic and endothelial-specific Angptl4 mediates the protection of TXL against endothelial barrier breakdown during oxygen-glucose-serum deprivation and restoration under high glucose condition partly via the PPAR-α/Angptl4 pathway.
