PDE4D gene variants and haplotypes are associated with asthma and atopy in Brazilian children
Immunobiology. 2023 Aug 3;228(5):152724. doi: 10.1016/j.imbio.2023.152724. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPDE4D (Phosphodiesterase 4D) gene encodes a hydrolase of cyclic AMP. PDE4D genetic variants have been associated with asthma susceptibility. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between PDE4D variants (and haplotypes) with asthma and atopy in a Brazilian population. The study comprised 1,246 unrelated participants from the SCAALA (Social Changes Asthma and Allergy in Latin America) program. Genotyping was performed using the Illumina 2.5 Human Omni bead chip. Multivariate logistic regression was us...

Decomposition Analysis of Black –White Disparities in Birth Outcomes: The Relative Contribution of Air Pollution and Social Factors in California
Conclusions: Our results suggest that, although the role of individual and neighborhood factors remains prevailing in explaining black–white differences in birth outcomes, the individual contribution of PM2.5 is comparable in magnitude to any single individual- or neighborhood-level factor. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP490 Received: 10 May 2016 Revised: 16 December 2016 Accepted: 03 January 2017 Published: 04 October 2017 Address correspondence to T. Allergenic Fragrances Analysis in Brazilian Perfumes by Headspace Solid Phase Microextraction and Gas Chromatography-Mass Detector (HS-SPME-GC-MS)
Perfumes are products mainly consisting of ethyl alcohol, water and fragrance. These fragrances are responsible for characterizing the pleasant and unique odor of each perfume. Among the fragrances, we highlight a group of fragrances which can cause contact allergy, leading to dermatitis. Brazilian and the European law state that when these concentrations of allergenic fragrances exceed the limit of 0.01% for non-rinse products and 0.001% for products with rinsing, the manufacturer is obliged to discriminate on its label their presence. Lung function in severe pediatric asthma: a longitudinal study in children and adolescents in Brazil
ConclusionsThe fact that the spirometric parameters (as percentages of the predicted values) remained constant in the>  800 µg/day group, whereas there was a gain in lung function in the sample as a whole, suggests an early plateau phase in the>  800 µg/day group. However, there was some loss of lung function in the>  800 µg/day group, as evidenced by a decrease in the z-score for FEF25 –75%, suggesting irreversible small airway impairment, and by a reduction in the post-bronchodilator FEV1%, suggesting reduced reversibility of airway obstruction. Among children and adolescents with severe asthma, the u...
