Effect of infiltrating nasal packing with local anesthetics in postoperative pain and anxiety following sinonasal surgeries: a systemic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsOur study supports anesthetics infiltration of nasal packing as an effective method in managing pain in patients with nasal packing after sinonasal surgeries. However, the level of evidence is low. More high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to establish its effectiveness in reducing anxiety. We believe this review is of great clinical significance due to the vast patient population undergoing sinonasal surgeries. Postoperative local hemorrhage remains the greatest concern for ear nose and throat surgeons due to the rich vasculature of the nose and sinuses. Sinonasal packing provides structural sup...

Diagnosis and treatment of deep neck abscess due to congenital piriform sinus fistula in children
ConclusionCongenital piriform sinus fistula is an important cause of deep neck abscess in children. The presence of purulent gas-liquid equilibrium or air shadow in cervical-enhanced computed tomography or ultrasound suggests a high possibility of the presence of an internal fistula, and endoscopic low temperature ablation can be done at the same time as the diagnostic endoscopy.ResumoIntroduçãoA fístula congênita do seio piriforme é uma doença relativamente rara na prática clínica; a maioria se manifesta na infância; entretanto, os médicos geralmente t&ec...

High PI3K/mTOR and low MAPK/JNK activity results in decreased apoptosis and autophagy in nasal polyposis
In this study we aimed to investigate apoptotic (MAPK/JNK), anti-apoptotic (PI3K/mTOR) and autophagic (LC3) pathways which are related each other in the nasal polyposis tissues.MethodsTwenty patients with nasal polyps and fifteen patients going through an inferior turbinate reduction were included in this study. Patients with asthma, Samter triad and allergic fungal sinusitis were excluded from the study. The apoptotic and autophagic pathways were investigated in paraffin-embedded nasal tissue sections of 20 NP and 15 samples from inferior turbinate reduction by H&E and immunohistochemistry with h-score. Assessment of HPV 16, HPV 18, p16 expression in advanced stage laryngeal cancer patients and prognostic significance
ConclusionThe close relationship between HPV and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma could not be shown in larynx malignancy in many studies, including our study. Our findings support a limited role of HPV in laryngeal carcinogenesis. Protein16 is not a reliable surrogate for HPV status in laryngeal cancers and is not a predictor of laryngeal cancer survival. Supraglottic localization of tumor was determined to be increased in protein16 positive cases. The correlation between protein16 positivity and supraglottic area location was determined to be statistically significant. There is a need for more populated clinical tri...
