Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: A Single-Center, Retrospective Study in Southern China
CONCLUSIONS: Type 2 DM is associated with AIS and its risk factors, such as dyslipidemia and hypertension. Patients in the AIS-DM group had less LAA and smaller arterial occlusions, and DM could exacerbate the short-term clinical outcomes in AIS patients.PMID:34234826 | PMC:PMC8216820 | DOI:10.1155/2021/5517228

Renalase gene Glu37Asp polymorphism affects susceptibility to diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus
ConclusionsThis is the first study to investigate RNLS gene polymorphism in microvascular complications of T2DM. The results suggest that RNLS rs2296545 SNP might be considered a risk factor for diabetic retinopathy in T2DM patients. This can provide new insight into the role of renalase gene in the pathophysiology of microvascular complications of diabetes.

Factors associated with stroke among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in China: a propensity score matched study
ConclusionsThe prevalence of stroke was high among T2DM in China. It is of great significance to strengthen comprehensive management of health-related behaviors including smoking cessation, moderate alcohol consumption, effective exercise, 6 –8 h of sleep duration, keeping normal weight and the prevention of hypertension and dyslipidemia to have sustained beneficial effects on improvements of stroke risk factors.

Clinical and Biochemical Signs of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Young Women Born Preterm
CONCLUSIONS: Women born preterm have a more hyperandrogenic hormonal profile, and those born LPT are approximately three times more likely at risk to have PCOS compared to women born at term.PMID:34081616 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-20-1462

The impact of parental risk factors on the risk of stroke in type 1 diabetes
ConclusionA history of maternal stroke increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Other parental risk factors seem to have limited impact on the risk of stroke.

The Repeatedly Elevated Fatty Liver Index Is Associated With Increased Mortality: A Population-Based Cohort Study
ConclusionRepeated evaluations of NAFLD status based on FLI measurements could help physicians identify higher-risk groups in terms of mortality, MI, and stroke. The association between FLI worsening or improvement and outcomes also suggests clinical benefits of the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.

The Relationship between Glucose Control & Cognitive Function in People with Diabetes after a Lacunar Stroke.
CONCLUSION: This analysis of lacunar stroke patients with diabetes demonstrates a relationship between A1C and change in cognitive scores over time. Intervention studies are needed in order to delineate if better glucose control could slow the rate of cognitive decline in this high risk population. Hemichorea in ketotic hyperglycemia with hyperdense striatum mimicking hemorrhagic transformation in a patient using apixaban.
CONCLUSION: Diabetic striatopathy is a rare but treatable disorder and should be considered in patients with poorly controlled diabetes who present with hemichorea. PMID: 33307650 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Simplified Prehospital Prediction Rule to Estimate the Likelihood of 4 Types of Stroke: The 7-Item Japan Urgent Stroke Triage (JUST-7) Score.
Conclusions: The simplified 7-item JUST (JUST-7) score had good predictive ability and can help healthcare providers to estimate the likelihood of different types of stroke and decide the referral hospital. PMID: 32701385 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Cardiovascular Implications in Idiopathic and Syndromic Obesity in Childhood: An Update
Childhood obesity is a modern worldwide epidemic with significant burden for health. It is a chronic metabolic disorder associated with multiple cardiovascular risk factors such as dyslipidemia, hypertension, stroke, and insulin resistance. Many obese adolescents remain obese into adulthood, with increased morbidity and mortality. As childhood obesity is a risk factor for adult obesity, the childhood obesity-related disorders account for an increased risk of cardiovascular consequences in adults, in addition to the effects already exerted by the fat mass in adulthood. Several papers have already described the cardiovascula...

Low ‐density lipoprotein cholesterol and stroke – how low should we go?
AbstractDiabetes is a well ‐established risk factor for both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Individuals with diabetes not only have a higher risk of stroke, they also have worse clinical outcomes after stroke, including poorer neurological recovery, higher rates of stroke recurrence and mortality. In addition to optimizin g glycemia, control of cardiovascular risk factors like hypertension and dyslipidemia is crucial in stroke prevention in subjects with diabetes.

Stroke in the patient with diabetes (Part 1) - Epidemiology, etiology, therapy and prognosis
There is a higher incidence of stroke in both the type 2 diabetic and the non-diabetic insulin resistant patient which is accompanied by higher morbidity and mortality. The increase in the frequency of stroke is due to an increase in cerebral infarction, mainly lacunar infarcts, with the incidence of cerebral hemorrhage being less frequent. The major risk factors for stroke in the type 2 diabetic patient are age, hypertension, the number of features of the Metabolic Syndrome, the presence of diabetic nephropathy in both the type 1 and type 2 patient, the presence of peripheral and coronary artery disease and especially the...
