Stroke Patterns and Short Term Mortality in Marijuana Users and Non-Users: A Cross-Sectional Study (P1.061)
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the SAH patients have higher rate of positive THC test in urine than other stroke types. Marijuana use has no effect on post-stroke in-hospital mortality. Study Supported by: NoneDisclosure: Dr. Mittal has nothing to disclose. Dr. Adabala has nothing to disclose.

Stroke recurrence and mortality in northeastern Greece: the Evros Stroke Registry
AbstractUp to date there is no population-based study from Greece providing long-term data on incidence of both all-cause mortality and stroke recurrence for patients with first ever stroke (FES). Adult patients with FES were registered during a 24-month period (2010 –2012) and followed-up for 12 months. We calculated cumulative incidences of stroke mortality and recurrence. Univariable and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to identify independent determinants of 1-year mortality and 1-year stroke recurrence. We prospectivel y documented 703 first ever stroke cases (mean age 75 ± ...

Age –Period–Cohort Analysis of Long Trend of Mortality for Stroke and Subtypes Attributed to High SBP in Chinese Adults
Stroke has been found as the leading cause of death in China, and high systolic blood pressure (SBP) has been indicated as a critical risk factor of stroke mortality. Accordingly, in this article, the aims were to investigate the long-term trends of mortality in terms of stroke and subtypes arising from high SBP stratified by age and gender among Chinese adults. The data of this article originated from the global burden of disease (GBD) study database. The age, period, and cohort effects were examined with the age–period–cohort model (APC). The age-standardized mortality of stroke attributed to high SBP in China has be...

Diagnostic accuracy of major stroke types in Chinese adults: A clinical adjudication study involving 40,000 stroke cases
Lancet Reg Health West Pac. 2022 Mar 5;21:100415. doi: 10.1016/j.lanwpc.2022.100415. eCollection 2022 Apr.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Widespread use of brain imaging in suspected stroke cases in Chinese adults has prompted the need for clinical adjudication studies of stroke types. We conducted a clinical adjudication study to assess the reporting and diagnostic accuracy of major stroke types.METHODS: The prospective China Kadoorie Biobank recruited >512,000 adults (mean age 52 years, 59% women) from 10 urban and rural areas in China during 2004-2008, and recorded 45,859 first-ever incident stroke cases during an 11-year follow...

Exploring Stroke Risk Factors and Outcomes in Sexual and Gender Minority People
Discussion SGM people may have different risk factors, different mechanisms of stroke, and higher risk of recurrent stroke compared with non-SGM people. Standardized collection of sexual orientation and gender identity would enable larger studies to further understand disparities, leading to secondary prevention strategies.

Incidence of stroke and stroke subtypes in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Abstract It is uncertain whether the incidence of stroke is increased in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and whether COPD is associated with all subtypes of stroke (i.e. ischemic stroke, intracerebral haemorrhage and subarachnoid haemorrhage). We evaluated the association between COPD and incidence of stroke in a nation-wide cohort study. All individuals between 40 and 84 years of age, hospitalised for COPD between 1987 and 2003 in Sweden were identified in the Swedish hospital discharge register. For each COPD patient (n = 103,419), one reference individual was randomly selected fro...

Perioperative stroke after cerebral aneurysm clipping: Risk factors and postoperative impact
This study assesses patient-specific independent predictors of perioperative stroke in relation to surgical aneurysm clipping. Additionally, this study evaluates the postoperative complications of stroke. We performed a retrospective chart review of 437 patients with ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms, which underwent surgical clipping from 2006 to 2013. Multivariate logistical regression was utilized to assess the effect of age, race, gender, subarachnoid hemorrhage, Hunt and Hess (H/H) grade, aneurysm location, and intraoperative somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) changes on the frequency of perioperativ...

Novel Drug Targets for Ischemic Stroke Identified Through Mendelian Randomization Analysis of the Blood Proteome.
CONCLUSIONS: Through a systematic MR screen of the circulating proteome, causal roles for five established and two novel biomarkers for ischemic stroke were identified. Side-effect profiles were characterized to help inform drug target prioritization. In particular, SCARA5 represents a promising target for treatment of cardioembolic stroke with no predicted adverse side-effects. PMID: 31208196 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Physician Volume and Specialty on In-Hospital Mortality of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: An increased number of stroke care physicians was associated with reduced in-hospital mortality for all types of stroke. The volume threshold of board-certified physicians depends on the specialty and stroke type.PMID:34393151 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-20-1214
