Factors Associated with Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence Among a Community-Based Sample of Sexual Minority Older Adults with HIV
This study utilized a stochastic search variable selection (SVSS) approach to explore potential psychosocial and structural factors associated with HIV-related health outcomes among a community-based sample of older sexual minorities (N  = 150) in South Florida, an U.S. HIV-epidemic epicenter. After SVSS, a forward entry regression approach suggested unstable housing, illicit substance use, current nicotine use, and depression were all associated with poorer ART adherence among older sexual minority adults living with HIV. No a ssociations between potential correlates and biological measures of HIV disease severity wer...

Pharmacological inhibition of S6K1 rescues synaptic deficits and attenuates seizures and depression in chronic epileptic rats
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our data suggest that inhibition of S6K1 attenuates seizures and depression in chronic epileptic rats via the rescue of synaptic structural and functional deficits. Given the wide range of physiological functions of mTOR, inhibition of its effective but relatively simple functional downstream molecules is a promising target for the development of drugs for epilepsy.PMID:37736829 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14475

Risk Stratification in a Tertiary Care Spine Centre: Comparison Between STarTBack and OSPRO-YF Screening Tools
CONCLUSIONS: STarTBack and OSPRO-YF are short screening tools with acceptable convergent and known-group construct validity and no floor or ceiling effect of their total score. Both tools could assist with the identification, evaluation, and management of psychological distress in patients presenting to tertiary care spine centres.PMID:37736380 | PMC:PMC10510560 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2021-0026

Patients with fibromyalgia in Finnish healthcare center - one-year follow up
CONCLUSION: With these results, we cannot conclude that ÖMPSQ predicts the patient's severity of symptoms. On the contrary, we can conclude that antidepressants and/or psychological therapy might reduce fibromyalgia symptoms for depressed patients with fibromyalgia. Patients with fibromyalgia might benefit from clinical evaluation and modifications to the treatment plan if necessary.PMID:37738389 | DOI:10.1080/02813432.2023.2259960

Network Analysis of Health-related Behaviors, Insomnia, and Depression Among Urban Left-behind Adolescents in China
This study aims to examine the symptom level associations among multiple health-related behaviors, insomnia, and depression in urban LBA. Data on a sample of urban LBA aged 11-19 (N = 3,601) from the Adolescent Mental Health Survey in Shenzhen, China, were used. Health-related behaviors (i.e., Internet use, physical inactivity, social jetlag, smoking, and alcohol consumption), insomnia, and depressive symptoms were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire. Graphical Gaussian Model (GGM) was used to describe key bridging nodes in an undirected network. Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) was used to construct a directed ne...

Health-related Quality of Life in Elderly Asian American and Non-Hispanic White Cancer Survivors
CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that race exerts a differential impact on HRQoL. Interventions should be designed to address the distinct cultural, linguistic, and systemic needs of elderly Asian American cancer survivors. Such an approach could assist in reducing cancer-related health disparities.PMID:37735828 | DOI:10.3961/jpmph.22.464

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 8031: Integrating Target and Shadow Features for SAR Target Recognition
ng Zhou Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor often produces a shadow in pairs with the target due to its slant-viewing imaging. As a result, shadows in SAR images can provide critical discriminative features for classifiers, such as target contours and relative positions. However, shadows possess unique properties that differ from targets, such as low intensity and sensitivity to depression angles, making it challenging to extract depth features from shadows directly using convolutional neural networks (CNN). In this paper, we propose a new SAR image-classification framework to utilize target and shadow information co...

This ECG was texted to me: normal variant early repolarization, or LAD Occlusion MI (OMI)?
This ECG was texted to me with no other information.  I assumed the presentation was consistent with acute MI.What did I say?" OMI.  Activate the cath lab. "  The T-waves in V2-V6 are diagnostic.  It does, in fact, the STE meets STEMI criteria since there is 1 mm of in V4 and V5.  There is also some non-diagnostic STE in inferior leads.  There is zero reciprocal ST depression. 50% of LAD OMI have zero reciprocal ST depression! But it looks a lot like normal variant STE (also known as " early repolarization " .Then I sent it to the Queen of Hearts PMCardio AI Bot and she gave this...

Mental and Physical Health Impacts of Mindfulness Training for College Undergraduates: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
ConclusionsMindfulness programs improve well-being in college students, with the strongest evidence for reducing anxiety and depressive symptoms. More studies utilizing stronger methods are needed to evaluate mindfulness programs ’ effects on additional health outcomes and online interventions in clinical populations.PreregistrationThe  study protocol was preregistered (PROSPERO CRD42017052459).

Prevalence of diagnosed depression, anxiety, and ADHD among youth with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus
We examined the prevalence of diagnosed depression, anxiety, and ADHD among youth by diabetes type, insurance type, and race/ethnicity. These mental disorders were more prevalent among youth with diabetes, particularly those with type 2 diabetes, with non-Hispanic White youth with Medicaid and diabetes having a higher prevalence than other races/ethnicities.

Teen mental health support can learn from cancer care in Ontario, psychologist says
Two new studies show a significant pandemic increase in ER visits and hospitalizations for teenagers due to self-harm or suicidal ideation. Experts say better mental health supports are needed — and a model for cancer care could be the path to providing them.
