Hypertensive Retinopathy and Risk of Stroke Hypertensive Retinopathy
In this study, we examine whether hypertensive retinopathy predicts the long-term risk of stroke in those with hypertension. A total of 2907 participants with hypertension aged 50 to 73 years at the 1993 to 1995 examination, who had gradable retinal photographs, no history of diabetes mellitus, stroke, and coronary heart disease at baseline and data on incident stroke, were included from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study. Propensity Score-Based Analysis of Percutaneous Closure Versus Medical Therapy in Patients With Cryptogenic Stroke and Patent Foramen Ovale: The IPSYS Registry (Italian Project on Stroke in Young Adults) Structural Heart Disease
Conclusions— PFO closure seems as effective as medical therapy for secondary prevention of cryptogenic ischemic stroke. Whether device treatment might be more effective in selected cases, such as in patients younger than 37 years and in those with a substantial right-to-left shunt size, deserves further investigation.

Clopidogrel Use Is Associated With an Increased Prevalence of Cerebral Microbleeds in a Stroke-Free Population: The Rotterdam Study Stroke
Conclusions In stroke-free individuals, clopidogrel use was associated with a higher prevalence and higher number of CMBs. Whether this association is causal requires confirmation in prospective studies, especially given the small number of participants taking clopidogrel and the possibility of residual confounding in this study.

Large-Scale Phenome-Wide Association Study of PCSK9 Variants Demonstrates Protection Against Ischemic Stroke Original Articles
Conclusions: This result represents the first genetic evidence in a large cohort for the protective effect of PCSK9 inhibition on ischemic stroke and corroborates exploratory evidence from clinical trials. PCSK9 inhibition was not associated with variables other than those related to LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, atherosclerosis, and type 2 diabetes mellitus, suggesting that other effects are either small or absent.

Comparative mortality according to peripheral artery disease and coronary heart disease/stroke in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: In the US adults, PAD contributed to increased mortality in persons with and without CHD/stroke. The prognosis of PAD without CHD/stroke was no better than that of CHD/stroke without PAD. Electrocardiographic left atrial abnormalities and risk of incident stroke in hypertensive patients with electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy
Conclusion: Abnormal PTFV1, a marker of left atrial abnormality, was strongly associated with incident stroke in hypertensive patients, independent of in-treatment SBP and other predictors of incident stroke. This association, in the absence of detectable atrial fibrillation, suggests that an underlying atrial cardiopathy may cause left atrial thrombus formation and a subsequent stroke without intervening clinically recognized atrial fibrillation.

Relationship of Familial Hypercholesterolemia and High LDL Cholesterol to Ischemic Stroke: The Copenhagen General Population Study.
Conclusions -FH and high LDL cholesterol did not confer an increased risk of ischemic stroke. A positive association with ischemic stroke observed for some clinical FH criteria and high LDL cholesterol appears to be due by previous ischemic heart disease, rather than by high LDL cholesterol per se. Neurological Events Following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and Their Predictors: A Report From the CoreValve Trials Structural Heart Disease
Conclusions— Predictors of early stroke after TAVR included clinical and procedural factors; predictors of later stroke were limited to patient but not anatomic characteristics. These findings indicate that further refinement of imaging to identify anatomic factors predisposing to embolization may help improve stroke prediction in patients undergoing TAVR. Conclusion: This study shows an inverse association of fruit and vegetable consumption with stroke risk. Identification of stroke-associated-antigens via screening of recombinant proteins from the human expression cDNA library (SEREX).
