Systems Biology Analysis of the Effect and Mechanism of Qi-Jing-Sheng-Bai Granule on Leucopenia in Mice
Conclusion In summary, our data reveal the therapeutic mechanism of QJSB by integrative application of transcriptomics-based network pharmacology and metabolomics technologies. QJSB exerts protective effect against leucopenia in mice through participating in multi-pathways, mainly including accelerating cell proliferation and differentiation, regulating metabolism response pathways and modulating immunologic function. Ethics Statement All animal studies were performed according to the institutional ethical guidelines of animal care and were approved by the Committee on the Ethics of Animal Experiments of the Second Mili...

Oligonucleotides —A Novel Promising Therapeutic Option for IBD
Conclusions In this review, we focused on recent and past approaches to test the therapeutic efficacy of oligonucleotide based therapies in IBD. The combining mechanistic mode of oligonucleotide based therapeutics is a targeted action on specific pro-inflammatory molecules, which are over activated in IBD patients and contribute significantly to disease pathogenesis. The proposed high selectivity of the agents is derived from its mode of action, that aims to specifically block certain inflammatory molecular patterns, without a general systemic effect on other molecular targets. It would be important for each oligonucleot...

A Systematic Review on Predisposition to Lymphoid (B and T cell) Neoplasias in Patients With Primary Immunodeficiencies and Immune Dysregulatory Disorders (Inborn Errors of Immunity)
Conclusions Though this is not a comprehensive summary of malignancies in PIDDs, or even lymphoproliferative disease in this area, this review summarizes the Medline-indexed published reports of B and T lymphomas in patients with PIDDs. This report highlights the diversity of malignant lymphoproliferative disorders in setting of PIDDs, and its associated challenges of diagnosis and treatment. The pathological classification and nomenclature for the lymphoid malignancies with variably reported and postulated underlying mechanisms were inconsistent and inadequate for many of these published reports. A wide range of treatmen...

Histamine and Delirium: Current Opinion
This study indicated that switch from H2 blockers to PPIs reduced delirium and, thus, providing an appropriate strategy to combat drug-induced delirium using antiulcer drugs (Fujii et al., 2012). The ventrolateral preoptic nucleus is a sleep-promoting nucleus located in the basal forebrain. A commonly used intravenous anesthetic, propofol, had been reported to induce sleep and augment the firing rate of neurons in ventrolateral GABAergic preoptic nucleus, but the underlining mechanism is yet to be clearly determined. Interestingly, the propofol-induced inhibition of inhibitory postsynaptic currents on noradrenalin-inhibite...

Effects of Orally Ingested Arsenic on Respiratory Epithelial Permeability to Bacteria and Small Molecules in Mice
Conclusions: Peroral arsenic has little effect on local airway immune responses to bacteria but compromises respiratory epithelial barrier integrity, increasing systemic translocation of inhaled pathogens and small molecules. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1878 Received: 09 March 2017 Revised: 14 August 2017 Accepted: 16 August 2017 Published: 28 September 2017 Address correspondence to M.B. Abstract B23: A phase 1 study in patients with mesothelioma or non small cell lung tumours requiring arginine to assess ADI-PEG 20 with pemetrexed and cisplatin (TRAP study)
Conclusions: The combination was well tolerated, the RP2D is 36mg/m2 ADI-PEG 20 weekly with pemetrexed 500 mg/m2 and cisplatin 75 mg/m2 every 3 weeks. Robust clinical activity has been observed with 78% pt having PR as best response on CT scan, as well as PR and SD in2 pt with sarcomatoid mesothelioma. The tolerability and response / disease control rate suggest that this combination may have clinical utility as first line treatment for these malignancies in ASS1-deficient pt. RP2D expansion cohorts are ongoing for pt with pleural mesothelioma or non-squamous NSCLC.Citation Format: Simon Pacey, James F. Spicer, Pui Ying Ch...

Connecting cyto-nano-architectural attributes and epithelial molecular expression in oral submucous fibrosis progression to cancer
Conclusions Molecular changes related to epithelial progressive maturation and cellular proliferation are correlated with concomitant alteration of epithelial surface architecture which helps to predict the malignant potentiality of OSF.

North Texas Fracking Zone Sees Growing Health Worries
This story was published by The Center for Public Integrity, a nonprofit, nonpartisan investigative news organization in Washington, D.C. DALLAS—Propped up on a hospital bed, Taylor Ishee listened as his mother shared a conviction that choked her up. His rare cancer had a cause, she believes, and it wasn’t genetics. Others in Texas have drawn the same conclusions about their confounding illnesses. Jana DeGrand, who suffered a heart attack and needed both her gallbladder and her appendix removed. Rebecca Williams, fighting off unexplained rashes, sharp headaches and repeated bouts of pneumonia. Maile Bush, who needed ...

Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis and lambert eaton myasthenia-an immunological profile of a new syndrome?
We report a case of paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis (LE) and Lambert Eaton myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS) with a novel immunological onco–neural profile: Voltage Gated Calcium Channel (VGCC) antibodies, high titre Voltage Gated Potassium Channel (VGKC) complex antibodies of non–LGI1 non–Caspr2 type and Sry–like high mobility box (SOX2) antibodies) with probable small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC). A 76–year–old heavy smoker presented with a 6–month history of dry mouth, dry cough, anorexia, weight loss, dysarthria and dysphagia, dizziness, limb weakness, and reduced mobility. Examinati...
