Talc exposure and risk of stomach cancer: Systematic review and meta-analysis of occupational cohort studies
The objective of this study was to estimate the risk of stomach cancer after occupational talc exposure. We conducted a meta-analysis was performed to calculate the meta-relative risk (mRR) of stomach cancer. We searched the MEDLINE, EMBASE, CNKI and Wanfang Data databases for publications prior to January 1, 2017 using talc, cancer, and mortality as the search terms. Only cohort studies with occupational talc exposure and stomach cancer statistics were included. All pooled analyses were based on random-effects models. We selected 13 observational studies (12 publications) for the meta-analysis, and heterogeneity was obser...

Search for potential Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase inhibitors with favorable ADMET profiles for the therapy of Helicobacter pylori infections.
CONCLUSION: The top-ranked compounds from the virtual screening workflow show promising results regarding the iNOS inhibition profile. The results evidenced the importance of the ionic bonding during docking selection, playing a crucial role in binding and positioning during ligand-target selection for iNOS. Prognostic Role of Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor in Gastric Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Conclusions: This meta-analysis result suggested that EGFR or HER2 should have significant predictive ability for estimating overall survival in GC patients and may be useful for defining prognosis of GC patients.

Genetic polymorphism of the phospholipase C epsilon 1 gene and risk of gastric cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate that the presence of the G allele at rs2274223 of the PLCE1 gene may contribute to susceptibility to GC, especially cardia GC. PLCE1 rs753724 and rs11187842 are associated with GC risk under the heterozygote model. Further well-designed large studies are warranted to validate these findings. Representation of Health Conditions on Facebook: Content Analysis and Evaluation of User Engagement
Conclusions: This research represents the first attempts to comprehensively describe publicly available health content and user engagement with health conditions on Facebook pages. Public health interventions using Facebook will need to be designed to ensure relevant information is easy to find and with an understanding that stigma associated with some health conditions may limit the users’ engagement with Facebook pages. This line of research merits further investigation as Facebook and other SNS continue to evolve over the coming years.

Insulin-like growth factor pathway aberrations and gastric cancer; evaluation of prognostic significance and assessment of therapeutic potentials
Abstract Gastric cancer is a major cause of treatment-related mortality and morbidity worldwide, it ranks as the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death in males and fifth most common cause of cancer-related death in women. The prognosis of advanced cases with gastric cancer looks poor with the majority dying within 1 year of diagnosis of metastatic disease. Thus, intensive search for new innovative treatments has been a major focus of current oncology research. Insulin-like growth factor (IGF) pathway has been evaluated extensively in preclinical settings of gastric cancer. Initially, a number of studi...

My 17-Year Quest For The Correct Medical Diagnosis
How many times can you begin again? That's what I asked myself as I entered the Hospital for Special Surgery, just three weeks after my first lumbar spine epidural steroid injection and SI joint procedure. I was late. I spent two hours stuck in traffic during my drive from New Jersey to New York. So I was frazzled and my thoughts were scattered when I arrived. Yet, that question, can I start over again after another procedure rattled around in my head. My entire adulthood has been a long and winding road, at least medically. At 17, a sparse menstrual cycle, joint pain and spontaneous fever left doctors scratching their he...

Pulmonary metastases from gastric cancer: Is there any indication for lung metastasectomy? A systematic review
Abstract It is still not clear whether pulmonary resection may have a role in the multidisciplinary management of gastric cancer lung metastases. A systematic literature search was performed to identify all studies published between January 1998 and December 2014 about pulmonary resection of gastric cancer metastases. Ten studies published between 1998 and 2013 were retrieved, including a total of 44 patients. After gastrectomy, median disease-free interval was 35 months. Thirty-eight patients had single lung metastases, whereas six presented with more than one lesion. Median overall survival after lung resectio...

Health state utility values associated with advanced gastric, oesophageal, or gastro-oesophageal junction adenocarcinoma: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Limited data estimate HSUVs in patients with advanced GC, OC, or GEJ cancer. Utilities for advanced GC alone and advanced OC alone were reported in only two publications for each cancer type. No publications considered advanced GEJ utilities alone, and four publications considered utilities for a mixed population of gastrointestinal cancer types. Comparisons are confounded by heterogeneity across the identified publications. Further research into HSUVs associated with advanced GC and OC is required to improve the evidence available for use in CUAs. PMID: 26212479 [PubMed - in process]

Glycoprotein asporin as a novel player in tumour microenvironment and cancer progression.
CONCLUSION: The apparent contradicting tumour promoting and suppressive effects of asporin require further investigation. Deciphering the role of asporin and other SLRPs in tumour-stroma interactions is needed for a better understanding of cancer progression and potentially also for novel tumour microenvironment based therapies.
