Orientation affects the integrity of glass ampoules of 1 in 1000 adrenaline on exposure to very low temperatures
Int J Circumpolar Health. 2024 Dec;83(1):2309756. doi: 10.1080/22423982.2024.2309756. Epub 2024 Jan 30.ABSTRACTIn very cold environments, it may be burdensome or impossible for the polar medic to prevent medicines from freezing. We sought to investigate whether orientation affected the risk that glass ampoules of 1 in 1000 adrenaline, an important emergency drug, would break during freezing and subsequent thawing. Ampoules of adrenaline were orientated either upright, horizontally or inverted. They were exposed to freezing temperatures (-25°C or -80°C) and then allowed to thaw. A crossover design was used whereby the ori...

85. Use of Telemedicine Services is Associated With Longer Time to Initiation of Hormone Therapy in Transgender Teens and Young Adults
This study aims to determine which factors may contribute to timing of receipt of prescription for testosterone or estrogen-based interventions for transgender adolescents and young adults who do not receive such a prescription at their first medical appointment. Factors examined include age, gender, birth assigned sex, and use of virtual or in-person medical care. (Source: Journal of Adolescent Health)

Integrating multiple lines of evidence to assess the effects of maternal BMI on pregnancy and perinatal outcomes
Higher maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) is associated with adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. However, whether these associations are causal remains unclear. (Source: BMC Medicine)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 625: Extraction Optimization and Qualitative/Quantitative Determination of Bioactive Abietane-Type Diterpenes from Three Salvia Species (Common Sage, Greek Sage and Rosemary) by 1H-qNMR
The objective of this study was the optimization of the extraction process and the qualitative and quantitative determination of the bioactive metabolites: 12-O-methylcarnosic acid (12MCA), carnosic acid (CA), carnosol (CS), 7-O-methyl-epi-rosmanol (7MER) and rosmanol (RO) in infusions, decoctions, turbulent flow extracts, tinctures and oleolites from three Salvia species: Salvia officinalis L.(common sage, SO), Salvia fruticosa Mill.(Greek sage, SF) and Salvia rosmarinus Spenn (syn Rosmarinus officinalis L.) (rosemary, SR), using Quantitative Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H-qNMR). Regarding the aqueous ...
