Brain Mitochondria as a Therapeutic Target for Carnosic Acid
J Integr Neurosci. 2024 Mar 7;23(3):53. doi: 10.31083/j.jin2303053.ABSTRACTCarnosic acid (CA), a diterpene obtained mainly from Rosmarinus officinalis and Salvia officinalis, exerts antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic effects in mammalian cells. At least in part, those benefits are associated with the ability that CA modulates mitochondrial physiology. CA attenuated bioenergetics collapse and redox impairments in the mitochondria obtained from brain cells exposed to several toxicants in both in vitro and in vivo experimental models. CA is a potent inducer of the major modulator of the redox biology in animal...

Interobserver reproducibility of cervical histology interpretation with and without p16 immunohistochemistry
CONCLUSIONS: Adjunctive p16 immunostaining provides useful information in the evaluation of cervical biopsies for precancer. In our study, we have demonstrated that it is highly reproducible between 2 pathologists, although the decision of which biopsies warrant its use is less so. Furthermore, although p16 IHC showed a limited increase in diagnostic reproducibility for all biopsies included in our study, it did demonstrate a more sizable gain in biopsies negative for HPV 16 but positive for other high-risk genotypes. Further studies are needed to clarify the role of p16 IHC and how it can be optimized for the detection of...

Extensive variation and strain-specificity in dengue virus susceptibility among African < i > Aedes aegypti < /i > populations
by St éphanie Dabo, Annabelle Henrion-Lacritick, Alicia Lecuyer, Davy Jiolle, Christophe Paupy, Diego Ayala, Silvânia da Veiga Leal, Athanase Badolo, Anubis Vega-Rúa, Massamba Sylla, Jewelna Akorli, Sampson Otoo, Joel Lutomiah, Rosemary Sang, John-Paul Mutebi, Maria-Carla Saleh, Noah H. Rose, Carolyn S . McBride, Louis Lambrechts African populations of the mosquitoAedes aegypti are usually considered less susceptible to infection by human-pathogenic flaviviruses than globally invasive populations found outside Africa. Although this contrast has been well documented for Zika virus (ZIKV), it is unclear to what extent it...

An Aloe-Based Composition Constituting Polysaccharides and Polyphenols Protected Mice against D-Galactose-Induced Immunosenescence
J Immunol Res. 2024 Mar 14;2024:9307906. doi: 10.1155/2024/9307906. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTA decline in immune response, exhibited in the form of immunosenescence and inflammaging, is an age-associated disturbance of the immune system known to predispose the elderly to a greater susceptibility to infection and poor vaccine response. Polysaccharides and polyphenols from botanicals are known for their immune modulation effects. Here we evaluated a standardized mushroom-based composition, UP360, from Aloe barbadensis, Poria cocos, and Rosmarinus officinalis, as a natural nutritional supplement for a balanced immune response...
